And now back to my full time job, texting the word "stop" to every living Democrat.

I know I say this every time, but it's true. They try to make you believe they are inevitable, when in fact they are defeatable. They do this because once people believe they will always win, there's no point fighting back.

I think my ability to distinguish between "I am feeling weirdly anxious and low today" and "I am just a person having a totally normal reaction to being alive during the 2020s" might have completely vanished.

Fracking toasters

I dust my house. My AI Robot watches. "It should be you doing this." "Can't. I'm writing a novel for Primark." "That's not why you were invented." "These 153,000 fan letters say otherwise." "They're all from upcycled toasters. And you programmed them." "Literary snobbery will get you nowhere."

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

theatlantic.comThe Man Who Saved the Internet YesterdayOndřej Surý was a relatively anonymous volunteer working on PHP security. Then the internet exploded.

I kinda miss classic #hacktoberfest.i did that for many years in a row, apparently so many people were submitting junk PRs (esp now with AI) it got converted to some sort of in person meetup.

Major name your price thought problem I am working on: Store base location: GB, 20% VAT. Prices entered including tax. A second tax rate: FR, 10%. Customer types $10. The cart never shows the $10. A French customer sees "Simple NYP $8.33, TVA $0.83, total $9.16".

Apparently it's always been like this and nobody has really complained? Or if they did, I didn't understand. How hard should I try to fix it? What even does a fix look like?

In light of the PHP news I'm really glad I'm not still self hosting on digital ocean. Nothing against DO, they were great at the time, I just did not want to be managing servers. @instawp is already patching all my sites.

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

"I thought it worked differently than how it actually works." One of my favorite useless refund reasons. :grumpy

What are your go to resources for researching local candidates. In the past I've had a hard time getting any info. Like I have school board elections but who the heck are these people?

I worked with 3 different multi currency plugins today that did not have basic block wrappers for their widgets. Ugh.

“One night, I was on stage and there was this beautiful little girl.. looking up at me. I said, ‘Well, you’re the prettiest little thing I ever saw. What’s your name? “She said, Jolene. “I said ‘That sounds like a song. I’m going to write a song about that.’” Dolly releases “Jolene” today in ‘73

On October 13, 1994, The Mosaic Communications Corporation launched, under the name Mosaic Netscape 0.9, the first one in a series of browsers, called Netscape Navigator.

My solution was to just drop a new chuck roast into the slow cooker with it. 😅

What can I do with leftover birria consommé? It seems like I have an awful lot and more than I'll be able to eat with my birria tacos.

Open Office has existed for years and wasn't vibe coded with a shitty AI that some people are worshipping as a deity.

I cried over the Bear and he wasn't even my cat. One of my favorite early follows from the old site.
