I think the problem with AI as peer reviewer is the same idea as "blockchain will enhance trust". It's a solution-shaped technical object. Oh will blockchain enhance trust because nobody can edit the distributed ledger except the humans who input the data originally who you already have to TRUST.

i wonder how much of this is MAGA-brain boomers who have chased away their kids with hateful facebook conspiracy theories and are seizing on this narrative instead of accepting a shred of accountability

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

Nathan Fielder is on the cover of @wired.com this month. I interviewed him about Elizabeth Holmes, his extraordinary new film, and whether anyone can ever know what the hell is going on with another person. An exclusive! And quite an experience. Read the full interview here:

what kills me about AI is that the people making it always talk about these high-minded uses that would supposedly benefit the world, but in the real world it's always used for the most manipulative and disgusting slop you can possibly imagine futurism.com/artificial-i...

This seems really basic to me: if AI models really ARE conscious -- like Anthropic keeps suggesting -- then keeping them in captivity and extracting their labor would be a horrendous act of slavery and the whole thing should be shut down immediately futurism.com/artificial-i...

futurism.comIf AI Models Are Really Conscious Like Anthropic Keeps Suggesting, Forcing Them to Work Is a Horrendous Act of SlaveryMaking AI models do all of that work for free could amount to the very definition of slavery if they're conscious, religious leaders warn.

i haven't seen any compelling evidence that AI is conscious or can suffer, but i can't even imagine what kind of person you'd have to be to berate chatbots -- what would that say about *you*?
