🧵1/7 These are my 6 Leadership Principles During Conflict. Whether you apply these principles to political, business or social and romantic partnerships examples, you will see the truth of the benefits of upholding them, and the danger of ignoring them.

As a proud patron of @humanists.uk, I think it's worth considering that sometimes this unforgiving world of ours gets better not through "thoughts and prayers" but by committing to the personal actions required when we embrace that # AllWeHaveIsEachother. Please watch the video.

We've just launched a brand new short film starring our President Janet Ellis! #AllWeHaveIsEachother explores making sense of the world through reason and evidence, finding meaning in this one life, and living with kindness and compassion. Watch it today! humanists.uk/janetellisfi...

It's as if the sun has gone down without notice, and now we reach for a substitute for its warmth and light that can never quite compare. Jason Collins, an NBA veteran, was a role model for civility and dignity on and off the court, far before his coming out made him a pioneer. Thank you, Jason.

Looking forward to this panel - a learning rather than educating session for me!

📣 The Adoption Challenge (09:45 - 10:45) Chair: Sana Khareghani @sanakb.bsky.social (Era4) Panellists: - Dr Erin Young (Institute of Directors) - Kate Field (BSI) - Prof John Amaechi OBE (Exeter Business School) - Anna Thomas MBE (IFOW) With 350+ sign-ups, book your place below:

As has become tradition on that other social channel I fled for here, I say to you, my friends and colleagues: May the Fourth be with You! (We must continue to fight the dark side even when they have a cool theme tune.)

We’ve launched a brand new animation explaining what #secularism is and why it matters in an increasingly diverse society. Our short film, What is secularism?, is now available to watch on the @humanismedu.bsky.social website. 🧵 understandinghumanism.org.uk/secularism/

understandinghumanism.org.ukWhat is secularism?Made for schools and families, the animation introduces secularism in clear terms as a practical way of organising society that people with different worldviews can share.

2/3 Because people do more than listen to your words, they interpret them. And when your language is vague, your culture becomes the same. Precision builds trust. When you say exactly what you mean, good or bad, people can stop guessing and use that brain space to take up more valuable pursuits.

3/3 Leadership is about finding the right words, especially honest ones, even if they make you feel uncomfortable. If you'd like to find out more about the work APS can do on shaping culture, you can click the link in my bio.

1/3 Too often I’m asked for solutions to poor communication or low performance, but what people are really looking for is a plaster. Something quick and tidy. But plasters don’t fix problems, they just hide them.

2/3 If you don’t identify the cause beneath the symptom - the culture, behaviours or lack of clarity - your solutions will always be temporary. Leadership is about asking the hard questions, like why is this happening in the first place.

2/3 Yet, when it comes to giving honest feedback or challenging a harmful norm? Suddenly the discomfort feels intolerable. But that’s where growth happens. In the uncomfortable conversations and the moments you choose integrity over ease.

2/2 Wherever you are and whatever your role, this conversation has practical insights for you on how to lead better, for yourself and those around you. If you’d like to listen to our full conversation, you can do so here: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/b...

4/5 If there is a solution to what ails this world, to the challenges in our businesses, institutions and communities, it's not ‘the young people’ - some distant, future generation or yet-to-be-discovered iconic future leader or politician.

5/5 The surest bet for any solution, remedy or balm for this world is YOU. To round off an extraordinary few weeks, I look forward to seeing some of you tonight for an evening of conversation about It’s Not Magic.

2/5 After time on the road, from the US book tour, to a return to Finland with clients, I took some time out to pause and reset before coming home to my favourite view of London from my roof terrace.

3/5 As we start to look ahead to winter, we can begin to think about how we end the year on a high and reflect on what we have learnt in the months prior and I’d encourage you all to mull on this thought, taken from the final pages of my book…

1/3 I’m honoured to be recognised by the Motivational Speakers Agency as one of London’s top motivational speakers. Speaking has always been one of the most meaningful parts of my work, not just for what’s shared on stage, but for the conversations that happen in the room.

2/3 The ideas exchanged, the moments of reflection, the courage to see things differently - that’s what makes it worthwhile. It feels especially meaningful to be recognised for sessions on leadership, culture and inclusion. They’re not always easy topics, but they’re always necessary.

3/4 Two esteemed voices who have taken the time to give their thoughts on my book, now gracing the cover. Their endorsements mean a great deal to me, not only because of who they are, but because they’ve seen the value in these ideas.

2/4 Some of you might take my word on the book containing practical, transformative and useful advice. For those of you who might be sceptical, I’m sharing here the extremely kind words of Doc Rivers and James O'Brien.

2/2 You have the power to dial up or dial down something today, tomorrow, this week that could be the thing that helps someone do better work. Pay attention to what helps you win, and choose to do more of it.

Join me at 7pm BST on October 6th for my final free group coaching session of 2025. We'll unpack Chapter 8 of my new book, 'It's Not Magic' exploring how we as leaders can flex to meet challenges whilst staying anchored to our values. Register here: bit.ly/fygsignup

1/3 It’s Not Magic is finally out in the world. This day has been a long time coming. Seeing my scribbles and notes come to life like this has been emotional, challenging and sometimes exhausting. But mostly, I’m grateful that it’s now in your hands.
