Halloween Radio: The Peoria Plague I try to plug this fun and very creepy play every Halloween season. A mix of Orson Welles' War of the World's broadcast and Night of the Living Dead, it's a zombie outbreak played straight by local talent on the very real radio staton WHUN (now WSWT). A favorite!

Like, to have a meaningful debate, you require at least two participants who: - know a lot about the subject - have some common values about the purpose of the debate - hold conflicting positions on the subject - but do not hold those positions particularly strongly

Continuing my Betty Gilpin praise. She is a conventionally attractive actor who has consistently chosen the weirdest roles and I will forever cherish her for that fact. She described playing Mary Todd Lincoln as being a Yorkie on cocaine that was to go on as Hamlet’s understudy at the Coliseum!
Betty Gilpin is a fucking treasure. Think it might be time for another Mrs. Davis rewatch www.npr.org/2026/10/22/n...

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.
We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

This year marks another spectacular Garden Glow at Maymont. This august institution is in the autumn of their celebration of 100 years of being open to the public. I went to the preview the night before it opened in earnest.

nice to see an attempt to exhibit the sheer amount of computation taking place!
the trajectory we’re on is that computation just happens a lot more. a lot more of the energy output of our civilization will go to computation. everything we do will be accompanied by more and more computation. could be bad! and yet computation itself is not taken seriously as a material phenomenon
