One of the most fascinating/saddest/stupidest experiences of my life was seeing how an FTC consent order was drafted (by someone who didn’t know what they were doing), and then how even that person didn’t understand what it said. Not surprisingly, it was not effective!

If there's one thing I've learned from publishing this story is that there is a very, very, very wide chasm between what the law says about all this... and what people *think* the law says and/or *should* say.

My second least part of this inferior website is all the idiot scolds who decide that the best use of their time is to identify as many common words as possible that they find offensive and then accuse random people of supporting genocide or some other terrible thing for using said words.

“Did you know that Hitler viewed himself as a prophet and so when you say prophet you are responsible for the holocaust.”

ZOOM IN: Critics of corruption consider it harmful to society. WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: Some of them could have more power after the midterms. BE SMART: Better get while the graft is good.

This framing, from one of the better-read political newsletters, reads like a parody of cronyism. But it isn’t.

I’m amazed at how bad music criticism is relative to TV & movie criticism. I’m not sure quite why, but something like 70% of the music criticism I read just misunderstands the music. (Thinking most recently about the Pitchfork review of The Great Divide and a concert review of twenty-one pilots)

One of the great mysterious joys of twenty-one pilots is Tyler’s extremely earnest and simple lyrical approaches and metaphors to complex issues. Why not at least seek to understand? In contrast, TV and movie critics generally seem to come from understanding.

Like, if I were asked to review an album of Gregorian chants, I would refuse—I can intellectually understand the music, but I don’t understand why anyone likes it. I wouldn’t write some hack piece that clinically tried to analyze it.

The pitchfork review acknowledged that Kahan regularly writes in the third person about himself and completely whiffs on understanding that he’s doing it in Downfall. Doesn’t seem to understand that the messiness of the album is an intentional choice.

When a Democrat praises Lindsey Graham and ignores his vital role in enabling an autocratic takeover of American government, it's because it's all a game to them. It's because they view Congress as a private members club and because they are immune from the consequences of government action.

Super disingenuous framing by HuffPost. Look. I'm the king of calling Bernie and his Bernie Bros and the DSA Bros out on their anti-Black racism. This is not that. He was asking a *Black leftist*, how they address nonsense from *Black centrist* because as a white leftist, this is not his place.

One challenge in maturity is whether you can swallow enough of your pride to support what is right and just and ethical, or whether your ego will prevent you from ever admitting you made a mistake.

Speedrunning the journey from “calling everyone snowflakes” to “demonstrating how to be a brittle snowflake”.

Pretty rich stuff from Rep. Brandon Gill considering he’s a carpetbagger in his district — which he oddly never seems to find time to talk about — and only has that congressional seat because his father in law is Dinesh D’Souza, a first generation immigrant.

You’ll be so surprised to know that this piece is so incoherent that it doesn’t actually tell you what the left doesn’t want you to do on Father’s Day, and what you should do (apparently?) is to buy the writer’s book (?)

According to my Amazon Echo Show, the “trusted news sources” for daily news briefings are the NY Post and Fox News so I threw my echo show in the garbage.

/3 Anyway, I don’t think Jesse would devote himself to helping get minorities in Europe killed. But I think he would do a multi-part series critiquing and mocking anyone who didn’t want minorities in Europe killed.

NY Magazine is a usually a great publication, but this article is a logically incoherent “flooding the zone with shit” take. G&T programs for sure are imperfect, but this long article adds nothing useful to the discussion.

Proponents of Gifted & Talented programs have promoted the notion that the smartest children need extra enrichment to reach their potential and that we can measure the beneficial impact on the children who receive it. But not a single part of this story is true, reports Katie Arnold-Ratliff.

Look, I’m sorry but I just can’t believe the Knicks came all the way back. And I bet a lot of my fellow basketball fans feel similarly. This calls into question the legitimacy of their Game Four win.

This show is fucking great

Okay, I’ve got a new TV recommendation. #WidowsBay is a great spooky-comedy starring Matthew Rhys. I’m four episodes in. (Don’t worry, it’s not too scary. And I say that as a weenie.) Also, the show reminds us that Massachusetts is a truly bizarre realm.

I never thought I’d miss Donald fucking Rumsfeld

Hegseth at Normandy: "Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies. Beaches in Spain and Italy and Greece and Bulgaria. Boats and men arrive. When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late? I pray not, and I believe not."

/2 Also: notice the parallels between Trumpism and the sort of Matt Stoller politics on display here: the notion that what the people really want is to be able to be douchebags in public without any social sanction. The commonality is being assholes; whether it’s for left or right is just cosplay.

- @jamellebouie.net’s column not long before his reelection on how a second Trump era would likely mean the end of the American republic as we knew it (he didn’t mean 🇺🇸 literally wouldn’t exist; the U.S. has gone thru multiple republics already) has rung in my brain for the past year and a half

tl;dr: Alabama's ability to administer a new congressional map disenfranchising Black voters has been complicated by the fact that Alabama is celebrating Jefferson Davis's birthday today.

On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying.

“I want a historic home in a historic district but also I want to replace the leaded glass windows with vinyl” should be a capital crime

I wonder what its like to write for the daily mail and be paid peanuts to search twitter for people pretending to be fans of Stephen Colbert writing fake tweets so you can publish an article based on them.

I don’t think DOJ should hand the president a multi-billion dollar slush fund he can divvy up between criminals he likes and his private bank account, nor that he should be able to buy stock then use taxpayer funds to boost that company. It’s corrupt. Sorry to get so partisan, but that’s how I feel.

In theory I love getting told whether or not I’ll have WiFi on my flight but this is just confusing. Sent 8 minutes apart.
