Considering the current state of software development, I should probably try to level up my trolling game (particularly on LinkedIn). Not that it will improve anything, but at least it might turn the depression caused by the constant flow of stupid takes, into something more fun.

Random FYI for recruiters/hiring managers: conducted a bunch of interviews a couple of months ago, and, lo and behold, the engineers that came out on top were a couple which didn't have software engineering/computer science as their original academic path.

All this to say: see those bachelors/masters in software engineering/computer science requirements many still attach to all roles? That's stupid.

Achievement unlocked (I guess): got a cold email from a company selling their staff augmentation services, ChatGPT like speech and all 😂

Was going to get me a VPS to host a hobby project, but it seems the reasonably priced ones are out of stock?!?! That's a new one... 🤦‍♂️

E na semana seguinte param Cascais para o ironman...

Just to make sure: people do remember that the whole point of building software (other than hobby/learning projects), is to make life easier or more fun for humans, right?

There's a tremendous amount of tool wankery going on these days. So much so that it's worth recalling that while tool wankery can be fun and educational, and some tool wankery is necessary and useful, tool wankery by itself does not deliver value to anyone but the tool wanker.

Just to make sure: people do remember that the whole point of building software (other than hobby/learning projects), is to make life easier or more fun for humans, right?

I tend bury my head and focus on the tech as much as the next guy, but at the end of the day, we need to remember the end goal. You can have 40k microservices, with all the clean code in the world, but if it doesn't help someone achieve something, it's still useless crap.

I wrote this for me; now you can read it too. It’s been in draft for years. I was recently a guest on the .NET Rocks podcast on the topic, that episode landed today, which made me revisit and finally get the post out of drafts: Taking control of your digital legacy www.devlead.se/posts/2026/2...

devlead.se@devlead - Mattias Karlsson's Blog - Taking control of your digital legacyA practical inventory, five categories, and the platform features that decide what happens to your domains, repositories, and accounts when you're not around

Ok, not using the new #CSharp unions just yet, but already made a couple of abstract classes closed, to get the exhaustiveness benefit and get rid of the fugly default switch branch throwing an exception.

Man why are all these well-loved tech companies so desperate to give their money to Mr Kill All Immigrants in exchange for his dotfiles

"The Swagger has an int32 for this property, how many digits can we send?" hell if I know man, it's an int32, so it has 4 bytes and documented min and max values, I never counted the damn digits 🤦‍♂️

Gotta love the obsession with removing all code from #AspNetCore controllers/minimal apis, moving it to some mediator type handler thingy, to "avoid coupling with HTTP details", then proceed to create a bunch of abstractions to map stuff like HTTP status codes 🤷‍♂️

Given whatever the hell this is... and the fact I've been adding stuff to my "home server" (a mini pc tucked into the corner), I guess I'm now self-hosting freshrss.org 🤷‍♂️

This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a long time. I was just about to catch up on all the blog posts I missed, but now I need a new RSS reader.

We should know enough by now that all the alarm bells should sound when an apparently benign feature like LinkedIn's recent "looks like AI slop" is released.

Google hacking Microsoft wasn't on my bingo card (Wiz is part of Google) The fact that Microsoft had a "Master key" for a public service launched 9 years ago 🤦 It took 10 months to remove it from the architecture www.wiz.io/blog/cosmose...

Some math ain't mathing for me right now 😅 In the MS MVP website, it says this is my 9th year in the program. However, my first award was in 2019, we're in 2026, so it seems the count is incorrect?! There's an off by one error somewhere, either in my head, or on the MVP website 😂

It continues to baffle me that the default messaging app used around these parts (PT/EU) is WhatsApp, when Signal, which, as far as I'm aware, has (relevant) feature parity and is just as easy to use, is right there...

So now there are two main European atproto providers (PDS and client), one is open source and one is closed source. Very concerned that the EU talks about how important OSS is, and then they pick the closed source one :/

If a service crashes while writing to S3, the incomplete multipart upload will sit there. Without cleanup policies in place, it will sit there forever, taking up space and costing money. Today's lesson: enough crashes with large enough payloads, quickly racks up terabytes of "invisible" trash 😅💸
