@budgetcommitteepod.bsky.social hi there! I found your pod from the guest episode on Have You Heard. I went to your LinkTree to find the submission form you mentioned but only found one for the Chicago event. Anyway, I'd love for you to look into Portland Public School's "Rightsizing" effort.

Mathematicians at OpenAI announced that a group of 10,000 autonomous AI agents under their direction proved that the Navier-Stokes equations can “blow up,” thus solving one of the six remaining Millennium Prize Problems. The result is not without controversy. www.quantamagazine.org/ai-has-solve...

This Spring, PPS said they were going to close 5-10 schools. Recently that number jumped to possibly 20 schools. They haven't published a list yet, but they haven't ruled out closing very popular focus option (STEM, arts, etc) schools, some of which are the last few K-8 in the district.

I wonder how Erdős would feel about this. Would he care that a human didn't write the proof? Would he think any of these machine-generated proofs are from "The Book?"

The increasing capability of AI has made it easier for people with less mathematical training to solve puzzles. But has AI made those puzzles less interesting to people who have devoted a lifetime to understanding them? www.quantamagazine.org/why-the-lege...

Anybody have a 5th or 6th gen iPod they'd be willing to sell to a dad to give to his daughter for her 10th birthday? 😀

Not sure if @felimwhiteley.bsky.social has mentioned this on LNL, but if not, I suspect he's gonna love it.

This is an excellent suggestion (and something we've been doing for any deep changes). Typing out changes loads context into your mind in a way you'll never get from reading in a code review.

In my continuing struggle to find a way to use LLMs while staying firmly engaged in the design of the code, here's a blog post about using LLMs like dynamic programming books. It suggests code, you type it out jola.dev/posts/treati...

📭 New Blog Post 📬 I wrote a tiny piece about how to store your SSH keys more securely. In times of distribution attacks like Shai-Hulud, it's easy to install malware on your computer that extracts your private SSH keys. Don't let them. peterullrich.com/store-ssh-ke...

peterullrich.comStore your SSH keys in a Password ManagerYour SSH keys are sitting in ~/.ssh as plain text exactly where malware looks first. Move them to a password manager instead.

Certainly a lot of handwaving, but it's easy to imagine the coding model improvement trend line colliding with the run it on an ASIC trend line and really changing what software is.

Anybody use Google Chat for work, through Workspace? Tt's about the same as Slack for our needs and bundled in. Would love to hear pros and cons from anyone who's actually used it in anger. 🙏

JFC AWS, all I needed to do was change my fucking password and an hour later, after fixing your permissions fuck-up, I have a new password.
