I just analyzed 1.9M recipes and can now report that the yummy simplicial complex is arguably *not* flag. The following flavor trios have far fewer recipes containing all three ingredients than the recipes with pairs of ingredients would predict.

An open problem in culinary mathematics: Consider the Y on vertex set I = {ingredients} where ฯƒโˆˆY iff the ingredients in ฯƒ appear in a single good recipe. Question: Is Y a flag simplicial complex? (A complex Y is ๐‘“๐‘™๐‘Ž๐‘” when ฯƒโˆˆY iff {x,y}โˆˆY for all x,yโˆˆฯƒ.)

For me, the most compelling open triangle is tomato / lime / cottage cheese. tomato + lime = salsa tomato + cottage cheese = budget Caprese salad lime + cottage cheese = Grandma's lime jello salad tomato + lime + cottage cheese: get the fuck out of here.

Hello again! I cannot apply for the visa until I have the full 12kAUD unfortunately. We are getting closer but I would really appreciate it if you kept sharing this post. Thank you so much!!!

Hey all I am trying to stay here in Australia (and out of America) permanently but the cost of a partner Visa is a bit extreme. Please help me stay here with my beautiful partner Lucy for good! gofund.me/b264e145f

My family โ€” Wildwood and Laika superfans โ€” has tickets for an iMax showing on Halloween.

Dana Stevens@thehighsign.bsky.social

Wildwood, the new film from the animation pioneers at Laika, is the longest stop-motion feature yet made, w/ voice performances from Carey Mulligan, Tom Waits, Mahershala Ali, Richard E. Grant & more. Not for little kids--it's scary & violent as hell--but a genuine dazzler. slate.com/culture/2026...

... if we can determine ฯ€โ‚€(๐•Šโ‚–) without recourse to graded endomorphisms and Milnor-Witt K-theory. This paper demonstrates that we can, and I hope that it opens the door to theorems where Morel's pattern can't be followed, e.g. in equivariant stable motivic homotopy theory.

(Aside: Morelโ€™s proof runs through the heart of the homotopy t-structure on SH(k), where ฯ€โ‚€(๐•Šโ‚–)_* is the initial homotopy module and must be identified in all weights at once. Pontryaginโ€“Thom methods work in weight zero alone and need nothing from the heart, which is understood only over fields.)

Beyond this (section 6 of the paper), I demonstrate that the kernel of PT is generated by what I call 'principal quadratic divisors', with the proof passing through an elaboration of Scharlau's quadratic reciprocity law on โ„™ยน โ€” the quadratic version of principal divisors on โ„™ยน having degree 0.

Why take the trouble to prove something Morel discovered* in 2004? Well, Morel's proof has always mystified me. It's beautiful, but it doesn't hew to the Pontryagin-Thom-type structure familiar to homotopy theorists, and I've always wondered... *invented

The main contributions here are to 1. define Aแต˜(ฮ“โ‚–) and recognize that it's the correct domain for PT, 2. prove this via a Position Lemma (an elementary "re-topping" method) that allows us to avoid non-reduced points,

3. use the Scheja-Storch form w and a theorem of Cazanave on naรฏve ๐”ธยน-homotopies to prove that wโˆ˜PT surjects onto GW(k) with kernel ker(d). By Voevodsky's theory of framed correspondences, this proves ฯ€โ‚€(๐•Šโ‚–)โ‰…GW(k).

The paper introduces a motivic Pontryagin-Thom construction PT taking a pair (L,u) โ€” L a finite รฉtale k-algebra, u a unit in L โ€” to a framed correspondence e(L,u). Think of e(L,u) as the points Spec(L) in ๐”ธยน with framing (tangent data) u.

The source of PT is Aแต˜(ฮ“โ‚–), the "unit decorated Burnside ring", which also admits a surjective map d to GW(k) taking (L,u) โ€” L/k now a finite separable field extension; these generate Aแต˜(ฮ“โ‚–) โ€” to the corresponding trace form.
