Excited to finally have this project up and running! I wanted a way to actually track how I'm doing over time with Wordle/other games, and compare that with friends, and thus Scordleizer was born. Check it out!

Scordleizer@scordleizer.bsky.social

It's launch day! Scordleizer connects to your NYT Games accounts and calculates a score for Wordle, Spelling Bee, Connections, and Strands--making your skill level easily shareable (and comparable) with your friends! Check it out at: www.scordleizer.com #wordle #spellingbee #strands #nytgames

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

One of the scariest things to me about social media fragmentation is that when someone starts talking about politics, policy or society in general, I can immediately tell if they hang out on X, even if we generally agree on things. It has such a unique signature in how it warps thinking.

You know, the thing is, I had drafted this piece a month ago, and then never published it, because I thought maybe it was too mean.

So we are warring with Iran And Russia is supplying weaponry to Iran. And we are paying Russia to send us diesel fuel. Because we are warring with Iran the ships with the diesel can't get to us. So we are buying it from Russia, which... Yeah, this is some three-dimensional chess right here.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

i really can’t bring myself to care about AI anthropomorphism debates. “is AI thinking?” i don’t know. is a calculator calculating? questions for the philosophers. what’s important is that we put sam altman in prison.

It's honestly incredibly funny how a 3 page long word document that outlines the rules for a HOI4 RP session is better at conveying Hirohito's culpability than multi-hundred page long scholarly monographs about Hirohito's life

In related news, I'll be starting the Medlock sportsbook. Every line is even money, no vig, max bet $580, both sides mandatory, one visit per six months. It's time to gamble our way to Medicaid for All.

James Medlock@jdcmedlock.bsky.social

Republicans, in their infinite wisdom, left a big gambling loophole in the Medicaid work requirements. I'm no fan of the gambling industry, but if you are on Medicaid and struggling to deal with the work requirements, taking a $580 bet on both sides of an outcome is one way of getting around them.

I've just deleted Google Maps off my phone and replaced it with MapQuest (remember them?)--MapQuest isn't giving in to this insanity from our Presidential administration. Good riddance, Google Maps--you've been getting worse and worse for a while now. apnews.com/article/lake...

This parallels something I've been thinking about men who are into "looksmaxxing:" They say they do it to get women, but ugly guys get gfs all the time. What the looksmaxxers want is to be SO hot that they can get women _easily_, without putting forth effort, care, or consideration.

Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

Seriously, it'll look WAY better. Get that punk vibe going. Don't give in to the slop!

I have previously written about one reason that billionaires find the AI story so compelling: at root, many billionaires just don't believe most other people are actually, fully real. How could they? Achieving billionairehood requires that you inflict pain on vast numbers of people. 13/

Apologies if I sound angry, but it is a real problem that the 'smart' commentary on this war is trying hard to avoid the core lesson ("the president is a fucking moron") because it doesn't sound very clever when it is absolutely the most important takeaway from this debacle.

No matter how many times it's proven to be ineffective, somehow the myth of strategic bombing as an effective tactic of war lurches on. I don't get it. This is a really good point here, and something that *could* be shown very effectively in a game.

The thing is, I think you could actually teach something significant that way: have the player spend 15 minutes having their unit torn up by unseen airpower, then stop and ask, "was their morale broken, or do they *really* want to go fuck up that air base in the next mission?"
