"Mom speaks truth, but only when it helps Republicans"

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"

The Candy Corn discourse is all fun and games until I remember they aren't vegetarian 😭😭😭😭 Gelatin why do you have to be everywhere

Is it just me or is that Tesla roadster backflip just the most obviously staged shit ever? But like, also, I don't think I need that feature.

Could it get any more obvious that Trump is a Russian agent? Are we done with this farce and can we finally just impeach him?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.

this is honestly one of the worst and most irresponsible things he has ever posted, and that's really saying something

Trump tries to start a race war: "The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants ... The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back!"

Just also want to note that trans people and advocates for the unhoused have told people for years that Gavin Newsom is trash. If this is what makes people realize how awful he is, great, but I really hope this is also a wake-up call to listen the first time someone tells you who they really are.

The State AGs were on pace to kill the Paramount/Warner Bros by litigation and delay until Gavin Newsom stepped in and turned the tide. Now the Trump loyalist Ellisons will control CNN and HBO. Don't ever, ever forget that Newsom stabbed us in the back www.wsj.com/business/med...

Why aren't the 2nd Amendment people going out to buy military-grade drones? Isn't their whole thing just buying guns so they can protect themselves against a tyrannical gov't? Their little guns are going to be useless if the government turns its might on the 2A ardents in today's day and age.

What publications do people actually like to read? I often see people dumping on The Atlantic and the NYT and WaPo, does anyone actually like the articles coming from a major publication in 2026?

And then complain ad nauseum when we vote for state or national offices and the candidate they wanted never made it past the primary yesterday, but they just "didn't want to vote in such a small election."

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

USA TODAY Opinion@usatodayopinion.usatoday.com

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

The Fauci hearing perfectly illustrated how living through a once in a century pandemic somehow made Republicans far worse on public health. God forbid we face anything like covid again during Trump 2.0. There will be no Dr Fauci around to try to talk sense to Trump.

The only conclusion that can be drawn is that the White House press corps knows and accepts both the appearance and reality of its obeisance

I work at a large corporation that is entirely employee owned, we have a healthy and generous (and automatic day-one) Employee Stock program, and every long-term employee loves how much of the company's profit comes back to our wallets. Yet many of my coworkers would still deride a DSA candidate.

I read this story this morning and it almost broke me. In a land of almost comical abundance, we are starving people to punish them for being poor and to force them into indentured servitude to oligarchs.

Hey American Airlines, please just let me get home tonight at all. I've been up since 3:30, and the fourth potential flight of the day is now delayed another hour as I watch the terminal from a stationary third flight, stranded on the tarmac.

My takeaway from that speech is that we are headed down the road of Trump trying to outright rig elections. It probably won't work, but he's going for it.

If you are wealthy, I think you should spend more money on clothes. There's no pride in buying clothes for the lowest possible price, as this puts downward pressure on garment worker wages and increases the likelihood of exploitation.

As I slide deeper into disillusionment with "the internet" or what's left of the internet, I see more and more people espousing hate or just shredding each other apart because they made a mistake.

I'm fortunate to not post enough to receive the ire I'm talking about, but I just can't stand to witness it. Everyone is so angry all the time about precisely everything, there's no space left to discover and find joy in community on the internet.

My favorite discussion forum died a long and slow death, Reddit is anonymous, Instagram is volatile, Bluesky only gives discussion room to breath while it's topical. I want to actually talk to people and get to know them, not just yell across the internet because we're all pissed about everything.

Certainly happens between left and right, but so fucking much on the left. "You haven't said ONE WORD about this topic" when often the topic is algorithmically guarded and not everyone has the same news feed, yet you have entirely fucked up for not knowing the exact information this other person has

So what exactly is the point of all this then? I watch the news I can, but in spaces like Bluesky or especially worse on Instagram or Reddit, there's no room for debate or thought. You either fit the perceived requirements to fit in or you are dead to that community.

As I slide deeper into disillusionment with "the internet" or what's left of the internet, I see more and more people espousing hate or just shredding each other apart because they made a mistake.

I'm not nearly early in seeing this, other people have pointed it out for years, but there's just no room left for being a human that made an error. As soon as the error is identified, there is no room for reconciliation or apologies or making good. The errer is ostracized, the erred seen as a hero.

The Taco Bell I went to yesterday only had water to *purchase*, not at the fountain, no drinking fountain. The hotel where I'm staying only gives water to "diamond" members, regular guests can only consume water that comes out of the tap. Even the fitness center does not have water to drink.

There’s been a lot of talk in this race about what makes a "real man." A man does what’s right when no one is watching. He upholds his commitments to his family and neighbors. He doesn’t lie, cheat, & steal his way through life. Real men serve others. Weak men serve themselves.

as much as i appreciate the democrats responding with vigor for once, the fact that republicans are using "transgender" as a slur for a political candidate is fucking horrifying and dems need to quickly figure out a way to address it head on. calling stephen miller ugly isn't a long-term fix.
