Given the number of foreign policy catastrophes of this administration it's really incredible to scroll through the NYT archives at the staggering number of pieces that were published about Benghazi over the span of Obama's entire 2nd term, as if there was never a bigger White House blunder.

The powerful executives who cozied up to Trump didn't oops accidentally forget about pendulum swings. They either: 1) Like the fascism 2) Calculated it was here to stay, so going along was savvy 3) Saw no real downside, no consequences when the pendulum swung Crucial to show them 3 was a mistake

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

That this is in THE WASHINGTON POST is almost too much irony to bear.

If you still are a Republican after all this, if you still didn't quit this Nazi-wannabe party - you're complicit in what they do. No matter who you personally vote for.

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

Mediocre, stupid white, mostly men, promoted to positions they shouldn’t be in the same universe as. They are racist stupid clowns who are incapable of learning. This is the idiocracy.

A good summation of David Brooks and "civility" politics generally: no one on the right-wing can ever be described honestly, while everyone who isn't on the right-wing is always portrayed as a radical breaking cherished norms.

This is a regular feature of data-matching, especially when done in a half-assed way. The purpose is to create the false claims of fraud. For example, Republicans complained for years about the risk of double voting. A credible system was built to detect it (ERIC). Then they killed it.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.

Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh all need to be impeached if they are prepared to sign off on such a clear abuse of power such as these rules. The Constitution means nothing to them, at least when Trump wants to violate it!

I sure as hell hope that a Democratic administration, if we are ever lucky enough to have one, has the guts to rip this shit down.

Donald Trump’s 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery doesn’t have congressional approval. It doesn’t even have final sign-off from the commission that oversees DC’s monuments.  But of course, that’s not deterring the president or his apologists.

There were some real problems with Ulbricht’s conviction. But valorizing him while they’re still executing fishermen for alleged drug smuggling is a hell of a choice.

So the GOP is celebrating a guy who created a darknet marketplace for heroin and meth, and put out multiple muder-for-hire contacts to conceal his crimes.

Fun Fact: Liz Cheney was flogging this lie right up until they ran her out of the GOP in 2020. She has *never* recanted it, but we have been repeatedly told by our Never Trump supervisors to shut up about it.

No one ever writes hand wringing articles about "is it time for conservatives to make peace and appeal to progressives" be that in political or personal terms. And that recurring detail gives the whole game away, I'd say.

We & the media are NOT talking enough about how a Florida grand jury found that $10 million was funneled from a settlement intended to benefit Florida taxpayers to Ron DeSantis’s wife’s illegitimate “charity” (that never registered with the IRS), where it was laundered before it got to the FLA GOP.

Ironically, the way mainstream papers lower the bar to give space to middling hacks in the name of ideological diversity is the closest real-world phenomeon to how MAGA imagines DEI works. Does anyone think we’d know the name Mark Thiessen if he were on the center-left competing for that slot?
