Updating my pinned post: sorry, my content is now strictly 1/5 web accessibility, 1/5 rage about the government, 1/5 world of warcraft, 1/5 my violin, 1/5 NY Knicks

This is directly parallel to how UX design thoughtthinkers are on LinkedIn crowing how Claude Design lets us "do strategy—not pixel pushing", meanwhile design's access to the rooms where strategy is being done has NEVER been more constrained. GenAI concentrates power in the manager class only!

I keep seeing people mentioning how ai-generated code lets you spend more time thinking about what the app should do, but I think there’s a need to remember that there are large groups of engineers whose role hasn’t been redefined to include that level of control and trust.

Letting all my fellow Knicks fans I know in person know that I will be locking in again this year since last year I did that and they took home the Championship, so I can now only assume I am blessed.

I need a lion headband (like with ears and a mane or whatever) to wear for the Lions/Packers game and I just don't know why this is hard. The one I got is giving more terrier than lion.

I hate this timeline.

I don't know why, but I really expected that Mankrik's wife would be alive in WoW Forever. Like the way I so hopefully rounded the little hut to get to the opening only to find her like usual 😭😭😭

cool. but now I want an apology from all my enemies and everyone who said I was too "front-end" and not enough "full-stack".

So wait the whole “meritocracy“ thing was bullshit and actually you just need to be rich and/or have friends in high places to get unlimited tokens?

Always amazed at how things flip around like this. My parents are here for an extended stay, and last night I didn't hear them come home and thought they were out all hours of the night and started wondering when I need to call for help because they weren't answering their phone.

Finally, my mother's phone must have gotten charged enough because I called again and could hear it ringing. They were home and in bed by like 8pm lol

A truly heinous man has doxxed the Cornell victim on X and the comments are predictably vile. Based on countless interviews I’ve done with survivors, the trauma they are subjected to for coming forward is oftentimes even worse than the initial trauma they experienced. There is no real justice system

I'll admit the saddest thing about posting on social media right now is its very likely the only reason I would stop doing it is not because I want to stop. It's because there won't be a platform I want to post on.

I made a skyborne in WoW Forever, and I am only level 7, but I feel like they fashioned this entire story off from the Noldor in the Silmarillion. Like one of your first quests is basically "go do some kinslaying"

And when you kill some of the high order elves, they say "You would doom us all..." Like, the Doom of Mandos! Because I'm trying to get off this island!

I can have just talked to someone 5 seconds ago, and their conversation will not show up in the little DM sidebar list in Slack for me. But someone from half a month ago? Right there at the top. Terrific UI.

I really hope they do something. The game is such a love letter to the community that actually loves the game and its people and its stories; it would be awful to have it overshadowed by a hate mongering alt-right grifter.

Ellie - might post spoilers-ish 💙@keyboardturner.bsky.social

@support.blizzard.com I don't really have a lot to add to this. This guy isn't the same person he was 10 years ago. I faced personal harassment from his fanbase before and got put on their "watchlists". I've seen others experience the same. Some left our community permanently in more ways than one

Im reading the unfinished tales from tolkien. in it are a lot of notes about discrepancies and outright "retcons" and I wonder if the folks that chastise the warcraft writers for sometimes getting it wrong or changing their direction also think that tolkien should have never been allowed to write

Like some of these editor notes would have caused them to send letters to his publisher at the time urging them to drop him like a rock (since there was no twitter to yap on) if we compare to how they talk about warcrafts writers lmao

Just want you all to know that I went to the Feast of San Gennaro with my parents and I steered them clear of any booth using AI generated photos of their food. Nasty looking cannolis.

Someone in chat in WoW Forever yesterday said they should never have to think about politics when gaming and my brother how do you think the people that make your game are ever going to keep being able to make your game if they can't protect themselves? It's extremely political.

Unionization is the only thing that's going to remotely have any chance of keeping your 20 year old game around for the next 20 years like you want it to be and guess what many politicians want to gut. Guess which side they will be on.

So unbelievably jealous of people playing the WoW Forever beta and just like, enjoying the sunsets and hanging out in the world because of the new lighting/fog/water effects. What a little love letter to the world they've created. I don't want to spoil it for the actual release though!

The css-tricks stuff reminds me of how awful big tech is at longevity and maintenance because they hire weird little psychos that only care about having their constant drip of "make-money machines".

I'm still so grateful and think it's so special we had css-tricks when we did though. As someone who grew up with the web cherishing that part of the stack, it really was just the best.

I don't even know what the equivalent feeling for that is for developers coming up now, or maybe they don't even have it. Dev YouTubers that they follow? (there are actually great CSS folks that make youtube content). Asking Claude just doesn't feel like a replacement. idk!
