#css Hear me out…
We have this:
```css
@scope (root) to (limit) {
/* rulesets */
}
```
But could we also have this???
```html
<link rel="stylesheet" href="styles.css" scope="(root) to (limit)">
```
```css
@import "styles.css" scope((root) to (limit));
```
weird to see english-language media go with "France being France lol" instead of focusing on the violent, unabashed repression & criminal behaviour by the police
yeah a building burnt but, you know, kids are being mutilated so
Disappointed that Homebrew added Photocraft and all those other vibe-coded *craft apps almost immediately (formulae.brew.sh/cask/photocr...). The legality of these vibe-coded apps is questionable, and ethically it's even worse.
Only time my ADHD was perceived by anyone as a superpower was when I was contributing my free time to volunteer publications and open-source. “How do you find the time to do so much?” Simple: by maladaptively procrastinating paid work and losing money, sleep, self-esteem and even teeth.
ADHD is disabling & esp so for us who can't take meds. On this, there's something a bit upsetting when people insist it's a superpower *just* because they are impressed by the output. Do they see us as a machine or a chatbot which has value because of the nature of the output? Feels dehumanising.
All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.
Just a reminder that people don’t always realize they were raped in the immediate aftermath. It can take hours, days, months, and even years to realize you were raped, and it doesn’t make it any less true. There are many kinds of responses, including fawning and trying to appease your rapist
if you've ever accused me of murder then you have to preorder. this is not a threat. there is no reason to be uncomfortable around me, regardless of your state of residence. do not believe what you've heard.
Interesting table comparing the times between introduction of WebP, AVIF and JPEG XL and support being added to web browsers, operating systems and graphics software:

It's vastly more comforting to believe in an imminent robot apocalypse than the truth: the things that will destroy us are extensions of the unsexy but obvious problems all around us.
We are not doomed in one grand way, but a thousand petty small ways.
Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.
Same people who seem to think it’s bad for China to beat us at AI are perfectly fine with China beating us at high speed rail, solar energy, wind energy, shall we go on
Browsers should probably transcode WebP/AVIF/JXL images to JPEG on save, or offer the option.
Probably not going to happen because of the technical roadblocks, but still.
you just know that posting "i'm just trying to start a polite conversation about who deserves human rights" will not be marked 'toxic,' but anyone responding 'hey fuck off with that' will earn +5 toxic points
Updated to macOS 27. The visual config I find bearable (in dark mode), in System Settings:
Appearance > Liquid Glass: slider all the way to the right (less transparency, more contrast)
Accessibility > Display: Show borders on, Differentiate without color on.
I like:
- Sidebars look okay again, none of that wasteful double border/padding look.
- Window corners not being all over the place.
Dislike:
- Traffic light buttons look like ass, they’re distracting when they should get out of the way.
I think my disagreement with software developers who want to use LLMs to generate a lot of code is that I don’t think we need more software faster.
I have no proof of that, but I suspect we now have digitized and built software for almost everything useful, and sometimes for harmful stuff as well.

Software developers think they’re explorers colonizing space, when the actual need, by now, is for them to be plumbers maintaining an essential down-to-earth infrastructure of an almost fixed size.
And I’m not closed to the idea that our needs may change. If we get some scientific breakthroughs that make software applicable to more parts of the world in helpful ways, maybe then we will need to write more software faster.
But right now we’re probably putting the code before the need.

The correct frontier is quality, not quantity or time-to-market. But that‘s a low-growth or even economically stagnant prospect, so your employers and investors don’t want that, and you can’t sell them on it and get a promotion or even a job.

Software has eaten the world. Communication, entertainment, education, productivity, research, etc. The market is totally addressed.
We actually need to slow down and write less code, fix old code, make things more accessible and performant, more secure, more usable, etc.
The reception of my talk at DDD Europe yesterday, critical of DDD and of the field of software development in general, was truly magical and heartwarming!
Hope there will be a recording online soon!!
if there are people at 1password making the racists afraid to be openly racist at work, a genuine thank you. no one is paid enough to do that work but it’s not to be taken for granted, also sorry you work with scumbags and your ceo is a colossal baby with no swag
Is the thing you're reading AI or human slop? That's the question everyone was asking about "Shy Girl" a book pulled off the shelves after accusations of AI Writing. Here's how you find out whether something is AI or just... bad.

Because Omarchy news is going around, not so gentle reminder that the author is a vile, miserable, racist asshole who is calling for the eradication of entire peoples.
Your semi-regular reminder that given the size and extent of the “AI” bubble it’s an absolute certainty that fraud is involved. We don’t know the scale or location of the fraud but you simply do not get a trillion-dollar bubble without fraud, both financial and in information/discourse
Microsoft Edge is about to lock out older ad blockers, just like Chrome did. Microsoft’s plan for Edge means that uBlock Origin users are losing one of their browser options www.theverge.com/tech/976880/...
