A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

I still absolutely love watching Kevin's videos about specialized details that almost no one ever cared about before (and even fewer care about now) and I will continue to do so. It's more important than ever.

I wish I'd realized when recording this that it would come out on the 10-year anniversary of my channel, but even if I didn't mention it, I guess it's still pretty fitting 😅 (plus it was posted to my second channel anyway, lol)

one thing you learn from making a lot of things is that the nitty gritty details, the millions of tiny invisible decisions, ARE the art. The "higher level ideas" are not nearly as important or interesting

"AI lets you focus on the higher level ideas!!" because we all grew up dreaming of becoming managers and CEOs we all know the real artists at the very highest level are the shareholders, famously full of amazing ideas

If you’re not stalking TypeScript PRs, you might be surprised how much you can do with the API in nightlies (and even in 7.0 stable), so here’s a tiny demo that I think hits some of the highlights. 🧵

Well, it finally happened! After 9 years of Unity dominance, Godot was the most used game engine for GMTK Game Jam 2026 submissions. 🤖 Godot - 47% 🎮 Unity - 34% 🛠️GameMaker - 5% 🚀 Unreal Engine - 3% ✨ Other - 11%

Well designed policy

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...

Blood Dungeon is a platforming autoshooter coming to Steam, PS5, and Xbox X|S later this summer, but you can play the steam demo right now!

It's complicated but this definitely starts way before the engine, at the concept and overall art direction stage. It used to be that you had to compromise in artful ways to achieve a concept. But modern engines let you just do it. Concepts need to be given much more weight nowadays to avoid this.

my one big takeaway from this years pile of Showcases is that Unreal Engine 5 has co-opted or sort of, I dare say, polluted the visual language of games, where nothing stands out theres a kind of mediocrity that comes with being "photorealistic I guess". PBR substance everywhere, but not distinct

I went to Steam to buy Mina the Hollower but the autoplaying trailer turned me off so much that I clicked away and ended up buying this for $4 instead

Last year, miHoYo copied my puzzle game Ouros in Zenless Zone Zero. Because they are a recognized, billion-dollar studio and my game isn't well known, some people are now assuming that their version is the original, and mine is the clone. I hope this video clears that up.

The harsh lesson from this is that for many games, gameplay doesn't actually matter. Community, perceived value, and especially status in the community are much more important to players. Gameplay is tertiary or even optional. Successful games are fashion brands, not interactive experiences.

There’s also an entire conversation to be had about real-world events for video games which I think are entirely necessary if we’re really going to be part of the culture — games must be cultural objects that people meet and mingle around, culture relies on community which cannot be purely digital
