A helpful message from Lula for tech/media overlords (and their minions) everywhere: “We cannot have monstrously huge corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country, & trying to steer this country's election results.”
President Lula: It is not possible that we are not aware that a crime in the digital world must be treated just like a crime in real life. We cannot have monstrously huge corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country, & trying to steer this country's election results.
“Like other groups in Iran’s ‘axis of resistance,’ the Houthis are ‘obsessed’ with Mr. Epstein, said Mr. al-Basha… [Epstein], he added, serves as shorthand for the corruption of the United States & Israel and is invoked to bolster antisemitic conspiracy theories that Jews & Zionists run the world.”
STEPHEN A: Skip, I want to ADDRESS this issue. [BAYLESS nods] STEPHEN A: You KNOW I am not a fan of the Houthis. BAYLESS: Absolutely. STEPHEN A: BUT then Saudi royals mailed Jeffrey Epstein the KABA’s TAPESTRIES. The KABA, Skip! I did not think it was POSSIBLE to lose a PR war to the HOUTHIS.

Setting aside all the other deeply appalling aspects of this ad, it is being aired by a billionaire who would exploit this obviously troubled elderly homeless woman for his political career.
Donna Arthur — aka Amy Acton’s estranged mother, and the person whose testimony Vivek Ramaswamy devoutly trusts — has been living with her cats, in a car, in a church parking lot, having declined housing assistance. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/u...
Who knew that the catalyst for the term “yellow journalism” was a comic about an endearing, “buck-toothed, big-eared Irish street urchin,” originally published in Joseph Pulitzer's New York World newspaper in 1896?
The item on the origin of the Yellow Kid and Yellow Journalism was entirely new to me and great. It's the first item after the initial poem (which is pretty good too) www.writersalmanac.org/index.html%3...
“GloriFi swiftly imploded, filing for bankruptcy in 2023 only a few months after its website launched… The… legal battle includes well over a dozen overlapping lawsuits, many of which are pending in bankruptcy court in Dallas… The scorecard in the various GloriFi cases can be hard to parse...”
“We're seeing parents deported without being given an opportunity to decide what happens to their children... [And] pregnant, postpartum and nursing women… are being pulled into immigration custody, despite a U.S. policy that says… absent exceptional circumstances… [they] should not be detained.”
As more pregnant women are detained by U.S. immigration authorities, the @wrcommission.bsky.social is asking what’s happening to them behind closed doors.
“Experts described the legal argument… as ‘absurdly thin’ and predicted the lawsuit would not withstand judicial scrutiny. Univ. of Notre Dame law professor Derek Muller called the legal argument ‘one of the worst ones I’ve ever seen… designed to win the press release rather than the litigation.’”
“By the spring of 2018, MBZ had also put roughly $1 billion for Kushner into a second account at Israel’s Central Bank—at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s urging. Unlike the political slush fund, Kushner’s activity in this account indicated that it was for his personal use.”
This guy needs to go to jail. He needs to be questioned, under oath, then indicted, then tried, then jailed.
"I only wish the mothers of my opponents would be so brave [...] what she was really doing was saving Ohio from making a truly horrible choice! The Press is trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it's so good! Who wouldn't use such an Ad? I would, it's called, 'hitting pay dirt.'"
Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"

Naming your insane Rights Removal psyop after students murdered by the Nazis for resisting is a deliberate and repulsive choice.
The START of this clip made me do a double take: new White House press secretary Katie Zacharia sits on the board of White Rose Resistance, an organization that wants to *prosecute abortion patients for homicide* www.ms.now/opinion/abor...
“If the vice president of the United States can have a meal at my house when he is in Ghana, and if Adlai Stevenson can come into my home, then I cannot understand why I must receive this treatment at a roadside restaurant in America.” Ike apologized, inviting Gbedemah to a White House breakfast. 🧵
#ResistanceRoots Today in history, 1957: President Eisenhower apologizes to Ghanaian Finance Minister Komla Agbeli Gbedemah, who was denied service in a segregated restaurant. It was one of many incidents involving African dignitaries and a factor in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. /1

100 years ago, the afternoon daily paper in Angie Nixon’s hometown, the Jacksonville Journal (its morning rival was the Florida Times-Union), had a popular weekly column entitled, “What Socialists are Doing in Florida and Elsewhere.” Vance would export a sizable number of past & present Floridians.
The most ordinary man imaginable came to my home state to tell me to ‘get out of America’ while he & Absent Ashley enjoyed the comfort of buildings my ancestors helped build. Imagine standing on the shoulders of the ppl who built this country & then telling their descendants they don’t belong here/2

You have to wonder if this is going to make Black Floridians more or less likely to turn out to vote. The last high water marks for Black voter turnout in Florida: 2018 - when Andrew Gillum lost to DeSantis by less than half a percentage point 2012 - Obama victory 2008 - Obama victory

Putting FBI agents to work for Nixon’s campaign: “The… request for… info was contained in a memo to the FBI from Geoff Shepard of the WH staff… Shepard's memo asked for information ‘in order for (presidential advisor) John Erlichman to give the President maximum support during campaign trips.’”
Please, for the love of God, can the media stop calling random cranks who write fan fiction about their personal heroes in the past "historians."

In the Netherlands, acceptance of LGBTQ+ people has dropped sharply among Dutch youth. This is part of a worldwide trend where LGBTQ+ rights are increasingly under pressure. This cartoon was published in Dutch newspaper @trouw.nl on September 25.

I repeat: you should pay attention to what's happening in Mississippi
Yesterday we showed how important primary turnout can be on a national level. But there's interesting things going on at the regional level, too. Most notably, in the core of the South, Democrats *outvoted Republicans* for the first time in decades in the primaries! (thread)
“Minneapolis Public Schools enrolls about 30,000 students but has buildings capable of serving roughly 43,000. More than half of its 56 schools operate below 70% capacity. Since school funding is doled out per student, under-enrolled schools often struggle to afford electives and interventions…”
Chicago Public Schools enrollment dropped 11,537 students this year, continuing a decades-long decline amid a shrinking number of school-aged children.

People have this perception that #HIV is kind of defeated and under control these days. It's very much not. It took a lot of time, money and effort to suppress it to the current level, and if we drop the ball, HIV can surge back to disaster levels really fast. I fear it will.

"If we want a president who can be prosecuted for his crimes and who cannot purge the civil service or send masked agents into our neighborhoods, then Congress must be able to bind the presidency with laws that stick. Sticky laws require limiting the court’s power to dissolve them."
Trump says the Court's rulings against him are "shockingly bad." But the rulings to worry about are all the ones putting him above the law. @daphnarenan.bsky.social and I are in Slate this morning on the difference between a Court that enforces acts of Congress and one that defies them.
Paging Orrin Hatch! "We must use a judicial, rather than a political, standard to evaluate Judge Roberts' fitness for the Supreme Court. That standard must be based on the fundamental principle that judges interpret and apply but do not make law." (Roberts hearing, 2005) bsky.app/profile/flux...

Four full-time immigration judges at the Fort Snelling Court in Minnesota have a backlog of 33,000 cases. The national backlog is 3.1 million. The MN court implemented a brutal schedule of hearings with up to 100 cases per judge each day and a “rocket docket” for cases involving Somali immigrants.
Two of Minnesota’s immigration judges departed their roles in August, putting additional strain on a system that is under pressure from the Trump administration to resolve cases as quickly as possible.
“Trump is part of the 44% of Forbes 400 members who have donated less than 1% of their fortune… Last year, 39% of the list had given less than 1% - meaning that, as the richest Americans' net worths have shot up, their generosity has not increased.“

Back in November 2024, @gregsargent.bsky.social wrote that we were about to endure, under Trump 2.0, “an extraordinary spree of unrestrained malfeasance.” Sen. Ron Wyden spoke of a four-year “smash and grab.” And those stark assessments still don’t begin to describe the current level of corruption.
