Growing up (mostly pre-Columbine I guess) I only drew dead people and demons and bloodshed and (I think) I turned out just fine. You should see the panoramic poster I drew for an assignment on World War I.

So the "advice" doled out in this column makes me INCREDIBLY fucking angry as a former kid who was repeatedly taken to task by teachers for "inappropriate" drawings, culminating in a 9th-grade suspension spurred by Columbine paranoia and residual Satanic Panic. Arionne here says that was JUSTIFIED.

There it is, the most racist thing I've seen in a long time. We don't have to go back to algebra and stuff. Literally go to any hospital or university system in the US and learn otherwise.

The funny thing about the First Amendment and libel is that you can basically say anything whatsoever in a political context while running for office. Things news outlets would never say, or things they would couch with denials and casting doubt, politicians can just say the whole thing.

One benefit of holding leaders accountable for crimes is that if Flávio Bolsonaro tries to overturn this election, he knows exactly where he’d end up. In prison, next to his father.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia’s strongman leader Aleksandar Vucic has conceded defeat to a student-led movement in a seismic political shift.

Student protests in Serbia have been going on for two years already. But tomorrow the students get the new elections they have been calling for.

BladeoftheSun@bladeofthes.bsky.social

The protest have spread to Serbia. That is Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Turkey, India, Indonesia all protesting at the same time. It's time to force the billionaires out of power.

In Cuba (independent, not state media) Rubio is regularly compared to the Spanish officer who invented the modern concentration camp and killed hundreds of thousands of Cubans in order to "break" them into submission.

Florida voters, this is an excellent explanation and analysis of Amendment 2. I'll be voting no. Miami voters: were you, like me, unaware that there is a commercial primate breeding operation, Worldwide Primates, located in the Redland?

Florida's Amendment 2 explained: A tax break for farmers that could squeeze rural counties @annaforflorida.bsky.social was the only one to vote against putting it on the ballot, but there are real concerns especially when you couple this with Am 3 on the ballot www.wlrn.org/government-p...

I am skeptical of polls and surveys but this is a wild finding from the University of North Florida: 11 percent of registered Republicans they surveyed plan to vote for Democrat David Jolly for governor. Jolly is 16 points ahead with indepentends. Ladies and gentlemen we have a real race.

As the WLRN reporter points out, the substance of the leaked grand jury finding—that $10 million was "misappropriated as part of a sophisticated scheme to fund political activities"—is contained within the FL appeals court opinion, a public record, that ordered the grand jury report "expunged."

It's really weird how it's now normal to have foreign leaders issuing endorsements for US races.. and for US officials to endorse foreign leaders before their elections. A decade ago I was pretty sure this was criminal activity, and it never happened.

I did a long interview about the proliferation of police drones, what they're using them for--and importantly, what's keeping them from being armed. The answer? In most places, not much. Companies are noticing this lack of regulation and are starting to roll out plans for selling weaponized drones.

Public Defenseless Podcast@pdefenselesspod.bsky.social

Police drones already answer 911 calls in some cities. Matthew Guariglia (@mguariglia.bsky.social) of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (@eff.org) says the taboo is one of the few things keeping them unarmed. Ep. 525 with Hunter is out now: linktr.ee/pdefenseless...

Call me crazy but I think the rise of officially sanctioned piracy on the high seas in the name of law enforcement is just bad, no matter who the target of one operation is

On the other hand it might be good that people will have to get used to telling military officers to stand down. It's good practice for whenever we might have to order them to stand down under very different circumstances.

Yes, it does, IDF. You denied killing U.S. reporter Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022 until evidence forced an admission. Then you murdered hundreds of journalists in Gaza and denied it all over again. Want credibility? Let international press into the Strip.

There's also a lot of reason to be skeptical beyond that. For all the chest thumping, the US refuses to name the companies that allegedly contracted to ship the oil. There is no criminal case. It's an "administrative seizure" through a market that US policy itself created (private oil shipments).

I read a lot of the documents behind this case a few weeks ago before the Miami court hearing, which unfortunately I had to miss. It is an incredibly simple and yet novel case, actually, and some of the biggest gun attorneys in the US are on it. TLDR the feds can't ban non-citizen voting.
