i truly am SUCH a sucker for boss fights that are fast-paced and set to really kinetic music that feels like it blends with what the boss is doing. magician from House of the Dead 2, jevil and spamton neo from Deltarune, fucking...HYPERION from Returnal..!! so, so good.

i STILL need to replay chapter 3 of deltarune to get the weird route (or at least whatever hidden superboss i assume is there), so i can then play chapters 4 and 5 (i'm so behind)

the constant grind of semiotic violence from AI is so fucking exhausting man. read some text that doesn't say anything. look at some images that don't mean anything. here's some code I didn't write and quite possibly haven't run, presented as if it's a solution to a problem

There are a lot of opinions about what makes you a real writer, so let me tell you the truth: You become a real writer when you notice a typo and it's too late to do anything about it.

carved some pumpkins with some friends & their toddler, and the one i made is starting to get a little gnarly around the edges as it dries/rots

blew out the candle and the room smelled a little bit like roast pumpkin. maybe next time i should drizzle in some olive oil and salt first

at the end of an emotionally challenging day, i sit down to relax and comfort myself with my hobby: Games I Can Lose At. i am so good at taking care of myself.

trying to do more writing as a habit, to have more fun making shit up and move past my defensive impulses. here's a little something for the season: "Making a ghost requires preparation" (also i have no idea how to share chunks of text like this on bsky. i hope you get to "lemureplastes" at least)

need a gif of that bit from the dan olson beast studios video where he says "I'm sorry, but the fact that you even thought to think about it, is a sickness"

Could you have redeemed Kylo Ren without brining Palpatine back and if so how ? #StarWars #TROS #Palpatine #KyloRen #BenSolo

these fixations on whether or not a character "should/could be redeemed" or if it "needs" in involve some specific other character are just so detached from storycrafting, from how to think about fictional works, from writing. they're talking about palpatine like he's a pipe running through a wall

late childhood - i'd be making movies. likely shorts. earlier than that - comic artist. i was obsessed with SCUD as a tween, and i came up with my own name/logo for my "company" ("blastus comics" - mushroom cloud logo babey) earlier than THAT - marine biologist, i think? at 6 i was hooked on squid

I would have been an astronaut

this is a fun question, but also sort of a weird one. i have plenty of fondness for the dreams of my childhood, of course, and i love reconnecting with forgotten things. but i got dreams now that are just as goofy and important. the 8-year-old self doesn't have a monopoly on hope and wonder.

in childhood i don't think i ever dreamed of being a writer or a game designer, but i do know that if i had either of those jobs right now it would still feel like a dream come true.

legit why i don't take naps. a bad nap can ruin future plans in a way that usually takes drinking to accomplish. fuck naps

also worth noting that these people don't actually know what their preferences are. this sort of thinking basically always belies a lack of understanding of the actual parts of what they consume. when they say "tailored to my preferences" they mean "i believe it won't annoy me"

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

or, maybe more accurately, "the sort of thing i would want to represent myself with - you know, the sort of thing i would like". which, again, reveals they don't have an actual understanding of the sorts of things they would like or why, cos they don't know how those things work.

this is all shooting fish in a barrel, anyway - these rubes pushing their fantasies of AI being an infinite get-rich-quick-scheme-executer are the kool aid drinkers, not the people building kool aid factories. but i'm not always above shooting fish in barrels. especially the smugly dumb ones.

Productivity as an adult is just an endless process of applying new psychological tricks and operant conditioning to yourself until an acceptable number of tasks are completed.

seeing all this amazing art on my feed really makes me wanna run into the woods (take the day off) and just try doodling forever

i have been thinking about the blah blah boys and their crying mother, and i've been trying to write more, and i am energized by big joel's reminder that you can Just Write, and trying to make more fun nonsense - to not let the parts of me that know how to have fun making, atrophy.

I guess this is a thread for days where I fulfill my creative writing word quota by writing gibberish for 15 mins

oh and speaking of bad movies i saw on flights recently (one of my favorite traditions), Disclosure Day was the most boring spielberg movie i've ever seen! it starts with like 15 minutes of good movie that had me excited, but pretty quickly the characters stop having anything to do or learn about

and i'm sorry but i can't get over the premise. the film just can't sell me on "finding out that aliens are real would shatter the world" when its vision of "aliens are real" is the most boring imaginable one. it could be done, maybe, with compelling characters, but, well.

ok so Lee Cronin's The Mummy is actually not so much a mummy movie at all, and instead mostly just a more racist version of The Exorcist? like, it's just a by-the-numbers possession movie, but with a "spooky arabs attack an american family's children" plot that feels kinda Bush-era.

Proud to present my lifesize T. rex head, affectionately named Hannibal. I created this myself from start to finish- digital sculpture, resin 3D printing, painting, etc. Huge thanks to my friend @rj-palmer.com for instrumental crits and redlines during the sculpting process.

early into townfall - not sure about the gameplay, but man, the vibes are on point. i love that silent hill can be anywhere.

love seeing this game's version of the otherworld. masahiro ito's flesh-and-rust was great, but i do love that each game gets to do its own nightmare now. i think i still enjoy walking around when there are no enemies more than the "actual gameplay", but the flavor and tone is still carrying.

i think the more i hear it, the more i hate "golden" by huntr/x. don't think i have a good reason or anything, ultimately, something about it just sounds really grating. doesn't help that the movie itself introduces the song by having the main character repeatedly fuck it up, i guess

one animated show? one. just one? this is bait. i'm not wasting more juice on it.
