I might start writing my own Gentoo installation script. I had one on Github but time has passed and I want to review the installation process anyway.

When Anthropic's software—designed, programmed, prompted, and activated by humans working for Anthropic—does stuff the humans failed to predict, stop saying the software has "gone rogue.” The software does not have agency. Only the humans do.

I like seeing the dev of the SNES core on the Pocket actually telling one of these dudes off. Holy shit.

EVEN IF generative AI... had guardrails against abuse (it doesn't) was good for the environment (it's not) and was accurate all the time (not even close) it was still created by scraping billions of works of creative labour without consent, compensation, or even notification.

Every time a works-out-of-the-box Linux distro does something I didn't tell it to do or I find it running background stuff that I don't need, it's one step towards going full-Gentoo.

X shuts down apps that show its posts. Bluesky exists to ernable it. One of these networks is about promoting freedom, the other is not.

nitter.net is down. xcancel.com may go soon, too. all the respect to the folks at nitter for their services so far, but to be honest, X completely locking itself out of the web is probably a net positive for us all in the long term

I think we should normalize bringing our own bootable USB stick to computer/electronics shops to test how much hardware in the PC we want to buy is compatible with the OS that will be installed on it. I mean, it's probably not forbidden by shops but I fear I might look suspicious and get kicked out.

I cannot stress enough: the AI bubble has already popped it is just being kept on life support by corporations trying to squeeze even a dollar more out of their shit investment, and tech bros doing the same before abandoning their shit company startups. keep hating on AI, you're winning

Why is reading the things you're supposed to study so boring while reading the things you're NOT supposed to study so interesting?
