“Thirty years ago, nobody had bottles of water. You had a drink from the tap when you got home and suddenly we were persuaded that you can’t go 10 minutes without being thirsty. This is a derangement. Millions of plastic bottles everywhere, as if being thirsty was a terrible affliction" - Ian McEwan

Unthinkable just 10 years ago: Almost 3/4 of the EU’s electricity in 2024 was from renewable energy sources and nuclear. Gas and coal electricity generation is at record low levels.

I always forget how bad the seats on Avanti trains are these days. Comfort rating just slightly above a church pew.

People are worried about Trump’s trade war and want to know what they can do to help. The Government should launch a campaign to encourage people to Buy British and support our high streets, as part of a national effort to back British businesses.

I hate that service charges have crept up to 12.5% as standard in restaurants these days. If you think your staff are worth the money then pay them correctly, put the prices up on your menu and say that no tips are required or asked for. Tipping culture is toxic.

As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

Blessings of the morning: going over student weekly reading reports, and as requested, they didn't use chatgpt. It's all full of life and originality and actual thinking, confusion, brain work. 😍😍😍 Will share the anti-AI motivational slides I showed them, French and English versions, a bit later.

Check the date on this shocking story. And then ask yourself why Nigel Farage and Elon Musk haven’t been tweeting about these people. You know why. They know why. We all know why.

Insane how far Meta are sinking.

I don't really use TikTok that much, but I find it fascinating that our government is on the verge of banning an app for national security reasons that are still unclear in the same week that Meta, the largest social media company, says it's now fine to hate LGBTQ people and call us mentally ill.

Interesting findings here from a hybrid working case study, with rises in retention & job satisfaction rates among other positive metrics: and, crucially, a productivity rise that went counter to an expected drop. Highlights the mindset challenge for employers in accepting flexible working models.

One reason that James Dyson is so angry could be that he bought 36,000 acres of British farmland with a view to saving roughly £100 million in inheritance tax. Curiously The Times’ news article fails to mention this. 🤔

You are up to date.
