NEW: I spoke with current and former EA employees to understand how the latest layoff round played out and the realities of daily life at the U.S. publisher. The short version? EA is controlled by an executive class that "cannot fail, only be failed." Workers, then, will always pay the price.

It’s important to realize that we, the players, are no longer the customers of video game companies. We’re just a source of money. The real customers are the investors, and no matter what, the companies need to keep them happy and show them that their investments are paying off.

Don’t know how to say it other than, creatives are currently enduring an Era of Punishment from rich people who just despise people with functioning brains.

what is there to even say at this point i just want to make video games in an industry where that contribution is valued, alongside my peers, so that we can have a paycheck and some fucking dignity, man

big era for buying companies full of people who are good at making things together, destroying their ability to do that, and then shutting them down

You gotta really hand it to both Workday and Salesforce: both are some of the worst software you'll have to interact with as an employee in a large organization, but both have somehow convinced every company to use them. These licenses must be cheap as hell.

The way The Diplomat S4 is going through these parallel threads of dysfunctional relationships and dysfunctional governance is DELICIOUS. What a good-ass show.

Given that the person who had their game "replicated" is also an AI slopper, is lying about that, and the "replica" was on Steam before their game was: I feel ok using this as a jumping off point for discussing why I don't think this is anywhere near as much of an issue as people are worried about

How do you even survive as an indie in the current landscape? This is insane.

Vibe coded programs are extremely dangerous. You have no idea wtf the code is made to do, and neither does the person distributing it. Like sure, it could infect your PC or create backdoors, but also memory leaks, render files unusable, brick it so you can't boot, anything Do not install them

Nash@radiodeadair.com

If you still have the Epic Games Launcher on your system, don't update it and get it the fuck off of your computer. There's no telling what damage it can do or what vibecoded landmines are waiting in it.

Moving to a new place so I finally took the time to frame this limited edition print I bought from the Yetee like years ago of the PAL Mega Man 1 box art.

You know, the thing is, I had drafted this piece a month ago, and then never published it, because I thought maybe it was too mean.

In The Northman the He-Witch is wearing a strip of bark with an Ægishjálmur ("helm of awe"), a galdrastafur (incantation staff) written on it. While galdrastafir were almost exclusively associated with men, the practice of using them did not appear until the 16th century, at the earliest.

I’m cashing in a lifetime of karma for every time I bought a notebook for a project thinking it would solve everything, only for me to not use it — I just bought one to keep Lexa design notes separate from technical and meeting notes and I feel like ideas are just pouring out of me into this thing.

YouTube hasn't paid out music streaming earnings to Distrokid for almost two months with no communication, so my income has been cut in half just for fun. It's a startling reminder that the entire streaming ecosystem could just go away overnight because a tech company lets it. Buy albums if you can.

Being a writer is great, your job is just words and every time you see the slightest edit in a google doc you get to think that everyone hates you actually

My apartment complex does this really cool thing where if you miss paying your rent by even a day, they send you a very scary "PAY OR VACATE IN 14 DAYS" notice, which is not at all stress-inducing.

I maaaaay have been a bit distracted this month and maaaay have forgotten to put out a post after we published this announcement, but happy to say that we decided on a final name for Project Lexa, which is now Lexa!

I think you are not only seeing Sharma's managerial style in these moves, but also the clear influence of people who have been desperate to treat game development as a spreadsheet venture for years at Xbox and are finally getting their chance.

On the eve of moving out of this apartment, I think I learned why the internet from this local ISP is so bad on my PC — looks like it only has enough throughput for like one major task? So if I'm updating a game on Steam, web pages will fail. If I'm on a Discord call, game update speeds tank.
