This new Polyphia album is might as well be called "How To Let A Producer Ruin Your Songs With Clipping and Redlining In Less Than An Hour." There's some great songs in here, but dear god, the constant BUZZZZZ flattening because the bottom end's being blown out just make it SUCH a rough listen.

Weirdest musical question I've asked in a while. Go listen to the All That Remains song "Six" but just from 1:35-2:37. I want a band that plays THAT kind of thing all the time, without harsh vocals. Melodic dark moody metal that feels like midnight. Anyone got any idea where to start?

In thirty-six months time, hopefully our prisons will be packed full, wall-to-wall, with white collar criminals from this administration, and its associated flunkies.

Description in general bores me to write. I save physical descriptions of characters for when I think it's relevant to the plot.

@scalzi.com I’m on a Scalzi kick (KPS, the Old Man’s War series, Redshirts, and now Interdependency… Obviously enjoying it all, but have noticed an interesting thing—you never give any physical descriptions of your characters. Just wondering if this was intentional or not, and if so why?

I was lucky enough to meet Tim recently and tell him that when I worked at Westwood Studios, the people who remembered him coming to film his part in Red Alert 2 had nothing but joy in talking about him. He liked that. At this event, he spent all night upstaging Leslie Ann Warren. A titan. RIP.

Some days writing feels like attempting to capture lightning in a bottle. Today felt like the bottle was greased, my feet were in a puddle and I was wearing a hat with metal antlers. Nothing works, everything hurt or was frustrating and I'm hoping tomorrow's different.

Watched the first episode of "Lanterns" and genuinely enjoyed the utter hell out of it. It's smart, snarky and still feels like it's in tune with the better runs of Green Lantern. Can't wait for the rest of it.

You know that thing about imposter syndrome never really going away? I've written about a quarter of a million words this year, and I still feel like I'm slacking and could be doing more, but I'm also really happy with the work I've produced. So yeah, it's challenging being creative for a living.

“We’re gonna go through every fucking file” is what I want to hear right now from every Dem candidate. Seed fear into the gestapo. Let them know they don’t just walk away from all this when management changes. Biden historically blew it by “moving on” from Jan6. We can’t make that mistake again.

Saw "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" today, as to avoid spoilers, and honestly? It's probably the best Marvel movie in years. There's some odd dangling threads at the end, but nothing unforgiveable. If you like Spider-Man as a character at all, definitely recommend going and seeing it writ large.

Look, Mike Johnson is so diabolical and lying at such volume that it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here. Which means we need to remove Mike Johnson immediately.

RAJU: But what evidence is there to prove the California election is rigged? MIKE JOHNSON: Look, some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here.

Why bother dissolving Congress? It's clear they don't want to put up a real fight about anything. Budget, war powers, etc. Seriously, Congress, the people who bought and paid for you are going to stop paying you soon, because you're now a bad investment, because you can't do anything...

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Breaking news: The Trump administration does not plan to seek approval from Congress for President Trump’s planned 250-foot arch, arguing that they do not need it because lawmakers a century ago authorized a somewhat similar project that was never built.

This month suddenly got CROWDED with concerts. In the next two weeks, I am seeing: Mercury Rev, The Afghan Whigs, American Football, Better Than Ezra and Chapterhouse. Next month, I get to meet Tim Freakin' Curry!

Republicans get really defensive when you bring up the whole destroying-the-economy thing.

Q: Gas prices are up. Inflation is up. Americans are having financial hardship. Is now the right time for Congress to be prioritizing a billion dollars for security at the WH & a ballroom Trump said would be paid for privately? MIKE JOHNSON: That's a gross misstatement of what's going on right now

There are two cards with Devour in the Witherbloom precon, but Gorma officially does NOT see Devoured creatures in time to have them enter with additional counters. Super confusing interaction to put in a precon, but nice to have a definitive answer. Share with your Witherbloom friends!

Jess Dunks@wotcjess.bsky.social

Yeah, that's correct. More specifically, for Gorma's replacement effect, you have to check what the game looks like *before* the creature enters. Even though you've chosen which creatures to devour at that point, they aren't actually sacrificed until the moment the creature enters. #WotCstaff

ICE is the American Gestapo. They do not have our best interests at heart. They do not have the law at heart. The cruelty is the point, and the sooner we can get to putting these people on trial for their blatant crimes, the better.

Anything you hear from any ICE mercenary, FBI agent, DHS agent, Department of Justice stooge, or representative of the federal government—it's a safe bet that it is a lie. That includes sworn statements delivered under oath. Remember that from here on. Whatever they say, it's probably a lie.

EEARTHQUAKE ALERT: It was a 4.9 and it was down in Boulder Creek, about 30 miles to the southeast of me. I'm fine. But I'll tell you what, it was certainly a jolt this late at night, when everything's usually so still.

Hot take: I'm sorry you're so upset with one actor that you're dismissing the enjoyment of hundreds of thousands of other fans as invalid, because you hate that one actor so much. But you don't get to go around dictating what other people can't enjoy and why. I'm happy to have new Firefly.

Don't want it? Great. Don't watch it. Nobody's forcing you to. But don't go storming into the threads who are happy about it and start posting, "This asshole's involved so you don't get to like it!" That's not your decision to make, unless you want someone to go through and find your assholes.

And don't tell me everything you like never had any assholes working on it. That's naive to the point of obliviousness. I refuse to let one asshole involved in a project filled with so much joy spoil that joy for me. Your mileage, of course, may vary. (end)

I'm also amazed by everyone who keeps talking about "the confederate undertones" without understanding their context in the Firefly story. Firefly's protagonist fought on the losing side of a civil war. Not OUR civil war. Slavery had nothing to do with it. Applying our world to it is silly.

And I'm certainly not saying everyone has to follow my line of what I'll accept or not. Because that would also be silly. But the amount of toxic fandom about this is pretty appalling. Fillion and Tudyk loved the thing they worked on with their friends. Fans loved it. So they're making more.

The simplistic take of "they should've just recast Jayne" doesn't take into account existing contracts, audience expectations and a bunch of other stuff. Yeah, the guy's awful. But he's one actor. I like the other actors a lot. I like the story/characters. So I put up with a bit of ick. My call.

Honestly, the amount of toxic fandom about it is a little disappointing to me. Because at some point, you have to just decide that the art is the art, and how deeply you dig into the people who made it/worked on it is up to you. Because for movies? There's always going to be someone awful.
