For several days I have been hearing rumors of an ICE detainee death that ICE was not reporting. I've just learned a local journalist has confirmed it and will publish soon. Now I read this and see there are actually TWO deaths ICE is not reporting. www.daylightsandiego.org/ice-detainee...

Ever wonder why politicians never actually do anything to support apprenticeship programs and community colleges?
Maybe it's because none of them actually understand how they work.
I'm a proud community college grad and apprenticeship instructor. I'm going to DC to shake that up.
Justin Pearson's response: "Men of faith––let alone men who are married, in their fifties, and in public office––have no business sending unsolicited nude photos to women."
Tennessee Republican Brent Taylor, running to flip a House seat his party radically gerrymandered, reportedly sent unsolicited nude photos as recently as 2021.
Taylor faces Democrat Justin Pearson for a seat that Trump won 60-39 under the new lines. www.the-downballot.com/p/the-downba...
Talarico: "If you've seen an attack ad on your TV, that was Elon. If you've gotten lies in your mailbox, that was Elon. If you've received a text message saying scary things about me with scary black and white photos. That was Elon too."
Senator Collins, I think you are a little out of touch. This is about a cord of wood — and about Mainers struggling to afford to heat their homes this winter.
Trump admitted he blocked energy funding to punish blue states he lost in 2024, including $586 million for Illinois.
Courts ruled it illegal. He's still blocking the money.
Bipartisan permitting reform won't work if Trump ignores the law. He must reinstate the grants first.
I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape."

Elon Musk is spending $445M+ to buy the midterms for one very simple reason.
He's terrified that a Democratic Congress might finally hold him accountable.
Per a new report from House Democrats, Trump's DOJ is withholding evidence of his ties to Epstein and slow-walking the complete release of the Epstein files.
It's time to end the cover-up and expose the truth.
Remember this when you cast your ballot. www.ms.now/news/house-j...
I’ve been fighting to ensure Granite Staters in communities like Merrimack have access to clean water and affordable housing – essentials no one should have to go without.
THROWBACK: It’s ridiculous that we hold referees to a higher standard than elected officials. It’s time to ban Congressional stock trading and end the corruption.
VP Kamala Harris: They're putting a whole lot of money to try and convince people that their vote doesn't count. We have the power of people on our side. So for the next 8 days, let's get out there and do everything we possibly can to show people who we are and what we deserve.
BREAKING: We're asking the Office of Special Counsel & State Dept IG to investigate reports that diplomats' promotions hinge on how they vote & who they donate to
If true, that's a political loyalty test & the law bars it

Today in Mississippi, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Scott Colom showed up to meet and talk with Trump supporters who were in line for the president's rally with incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith.

Walking the line outside the Trump rally in Corinth, I was reminded that more unites us than divides us here in Mississippi. I heard from folks who want to get foreign money out of our elections, put an end to flock cameras, keep our border secure, and make sure our veterans are taken care of.

From Zelenskyy. Patriot interceptors that could save innocent lives are sitting in European countries for weeks, which they paid for, unable to be transferred to Ukraine because Hegseth refuses to sign off.
Like too many Iowans, my sister Ulette is fighting cancer.
She’s also fighting her insurance company after they denied a scan to see if the cancer had spread. If you wonder how broken the healthcare system is, she is living proof.

House Judiciary Democrats have just released a 50-page report that pulls together years of assault allegations against Trump and his reported connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
The report calls for a special counsel to investigate Trump's ties to Epstein.
Judge Furman rules that Maureen Comey's firing violated separation of powers. Orders backpay. Govt's arguments violate 2 centuries of SCOTUS rulings & would "unsettle the equilibrium established by this Nation's constitutional system."

Ten years of one party control has left our rural communities with less access to care & in a constant fight to keep clinics open.
Zach Lahn supports the cuts that put us in this spot. He won't have to live with the consequences because he can just fly back to Kansas, but Iowans will suffer.
Ninth Circuit just finished hearing oral argument in DOJ's case to sequester 20K mail-in ballots in California IMHO, most likely outcome: dismissal for lack of jurisdiction, with District Judge Carter hearing case Tuesday. Two of 3 on panel seemed skeptical of DOJ's case on merits too.
In case to sequester 20K Calif ballots, DOJ waited till 10/15 to sue; waited till 10/19 to seek a TRO; was granted a hearing 10/27, but then demanded ruling by 10/22; when none issued, it appealed “constructive” denial 10/23. Incredibly, 9th Circ is hearing oral arg today at 4pm ET (Sunday).

For those if you not familiar with Texas...
Musk bought a lot of land moved his company there, built his own community for his workers complete with his own schools to indoctrinate kids.
It's called Starbase,Texas
He doesn't live there.
He has a ranch in the Austin area

“Elon Musk wants our land. He wants our water. He wants our tax dollars,” Mr. Talarico said at a rally in San Antonio on Saturday, as the crowd booed in disapproval of Mr. Musk. “He wants his very own personal United States senator.”
Well, Texas? It's up to you.
Writers Guild speaks out about tech platforms squashing the @alexgibneyfilm doc about Elon Musk:
“A small handful of billionaires now own virtually every major media company, news outlet, social media platform and are demonstrating how this unchecked concentration threatens democratic discourse.”
Looks like one can pre-order the Musk movie on Apple+ and that’s good because there are only 2 theaters within 25 miles of Los Angeles where one watch Alex Gibney scoop out Elon Musk’s tender guts one disgusting teaspoon at a time.

"Vote for Alex, vote for a step closer to justice for my family, vote for ALL of the victims of ICE, vote for your community and your neighbors. Alex stood up for his community so now it is time we stand up and fight back."
Everything is delayed by two hours as courts extended voting after complaints of blocked public transit by Bolsonaro supporters, and worries about bad weather. www.bbc.com/news/live/cm...
Not to ruin anyone’s Sunday afternoon, but Brazilians are voting for president today. We’ll start getting returns at 4pm ET, and, based on the results of the first round it’d be a clear surprise if Lula survives against Bolsonaro — even if polls have tightened in the last two weeks.
Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
I'm grateful to receive the endorsement of the Des Moines Register Editorial Board.
In 9 days, we're going to win this race and deliver change for Iowa!
The early voting blog is updated!
Mail is more than 60% of the turnout and Dems are winning it by more than 10 points while Rs have a 4-point lead in in-person. What happens if that continues or shrinks?
I do projections!

If you’re thinking of buying an Audi, don’t forget that an Audi executive appeared at a Trump rally this weekend to try to boost an American dictatorship. Make your car-buying decision accordingly.
County government fights I'm watching most closely:
Possible flip to Dems:
—Tarrant Co, TX
—Fort Bend Co, TX
—Hillsborough Co, FL
—Miami-Dade Co, FL
—Washoe Co, NV
Possible flip to GOP:
—Orange Co, CA
—Clark Co, WA
—Montgomery Co, OH
Currently tied!
—Will County, IL
Details:
The size of the 'blue wave' isn't just about how far Dems get in the. U.S. House.
There are hundreds of local offices that could flip if Dems have a great night—attorneys general, county governments, utility commissions, school boards.
Lots to peruse on my guide to 670 items to watch on Nov. 3!
