This is news to some people, so I present to you: authorsfirst.com Peter F. Hamilton. Conn Iggulden. David W. Ball. R. A. Salvatore. All people who made a good living from writing.

authorsfirst.comAuthors First Book-to-Screen StudioAuthors First is a book-to-screen studio and distribution platform giving authors creative control, so fans can watch the book the way the author imagined.

I'm so upset not to be at FantasyCon because the complete nuisance I would have made of myself, Peter F Hamilton wouldn't go anywhere all weekend without me heckling and booing. I would absolutely use the power of autism to give zero fucks if I'm upsetting him.

Today on Bluesky: - Called out a misogynist for participating in rape advocacy against all women because 47% of them voted for Trump - STRAIGHT AWAY got accused of virtually ‘raping his freedom of speech’ - Him: ‘Learn To Read!’ - Him: ‘You’re a snowflake!’ Sure dude. I’m the snowflake. Ok.

The Cornell 7 incident is absolutely horrific. I stand unequivocally with ALL survivors. I will speak up. I will report. I will challenge. Not all men, sure. But always, ALWAYS a man. And often, as we have seen the last couple years, an institution or group behind him. Organised. Complicit. Enough.

To the men: we are not doing enough. Speak up. Interrogate your mates. ‘Oh it’s harmless banter’ no it’s not. That’s how it starts. It’s actually boundary-pushing. It’s seeing what you’ll let them away with. Don’t fall for it. Call a misogynist out. Call the ‘banter’ out. Let ‘em know it won’t wash.

I managed to mostly not know any of this until today. This detail is new to me. The horror coursing through my body feels like poison. My God, men. Decide RIGHT FUCKING NOW what you'll do if a woman is sexually harassed or assaulted in your vicinity. Ask another man to do the same. TALK ABOUT IT.

Just throwing my hat in the ring re: the ‘Choosin’ Texas’ discourse - the ONLY reason I’ve heard it is because mainstream chart radio is constantly on in my office (not my choice). If that weren’t the case I doubt I would even know what it was. People shouting about ‘living in a bubble’ - yeah. And?

I’m not the target demographic and I’m perfectly ok with that. I’m a near as dammit 40 year old man who listens almost exclusively to metal, and haven’t paid any real attention to mainstream chart pop in ~20 years. I do not care about some artist of the week who no one’s gonna remember in 6 months.

As we get older, we generally care less and less about keeping up with what’s in the charts or who the kids are listening to - especially if, like me, you don’t even have kids. I know the song just bc it gets played about once an hour, but I couldn’t pick the artist out of a lineup, and that’s fine.

Can’t eat a sandwich until you subscribe to sandwiches. Can’t eat today’s sandwich until it has applied daily sandwich updates. Sandwich now has adverts even though you paid for ad-free sandwich. Can pay again to have less sandwich adverts. Now you can eat the sandwich, but it’s smaller.
