But the entire architecture of 80s movie comedy that came out of North America was made up entirely of either SNL or SCTV (or a combination of both). Yet only the former gets lauded as a classic, which is odd to me.

As a British person, SCTV is a weird one. Pretty sure it was never shown here (correct me if I'm wrong), but I managed to find out about it through a friend who somehow had a tape of it. It was amazing to find out that all these amazing people that were in EVERYTHING were once in one place.

Possibly the most versatile performer was Lionel Blair, and no one will ever forget the occasion he was given A Town Like Alice. When he chose to do a silent impression of the author. Such was the performance, that Una Stubbs gasped in amazement when she saw Neville Shute in Lionel's face.
