Working on some pseudoscorpion drawings. Takes a lot of concentration so slow going. Quite pleased with the results so far. These are drawn from several of my own photos and experience of watching them in the field. #arachnids #invertebrates

Héloïse might have made short work of the mantis but for its mesmeric dance. 'Avaunt, hen, and harm me not!' Cried the fae creature. 'For I am the Sibyl of the Shrub, and it shall go ill for thee!' #Boktober Hen and Mantis. Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, approximately 95 × 64 mm.

The mantis is called the 'rice-pounding grasshopper' in Thailand (ตั๊กแตนตำข้าว), from the motion of its raptorial forelegs resembling the traditional manner of pounding rice to remove the husks. This one was drawn with this very brush.

Someone on iNaturalist thinks this incredible moss-mimicking katydid I photographed in Ecuador is an undescribed species, no idea if that is true, but definitely possible, would be so cool if a taxonomist someday used these photos to describe a new species! www.inaturalist.org/observations...

'Hell Chicken' is actually an elegant, dignified little creature, if you please. 🤓☺️ The recently described oviraptorosaur, Infernogallus. Qualifying as an honorary #Boktober. Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, approximately 132 × 85 mm.

A generous offer for DIY bookmarks with Vanna Bartlett's superb Jumping spider (Salticid) images (Pseudoscorpions still to look forward to!):

I can put a pdf on my website then anyone can download and print them. I get them printed locally on 300gsm paper, the thickest they do. I'm working on several designs. Have already done harvestmen and working on pseudoscorpions.

Work in progress. Been drawing Jumping Spiders last few days and I now have enough to make bookmarks! Salticids are my favourite spiders, they were the 'gateway' species that helped me overcome childhood 'fear' of spiders. #arachnids #spiders #invertebrates #Arachtober

Drawing thread alert!🧵 @franzanth.bsky.social's beautiful crab has a moth-friend being made in return. So this is fair warning that I'm shortly gonna be back on my bullsht. Specifically, how I've gone from this hilariously rough sketch to a usable outline, & now I'm working on the final drawing…

#InverteFest announcement: The December art book will be our 8th and last edition. We've been doing this since 2024 but my real life responsibilities have changed. We might revive the idea in the future in one form or another, but no promises. If you want in, this is your last chance.

Proud to present my lifesize T. rex head, affectionately named Hannibal. I created this myself from start to finish- digital sculpture, resin 3D printing, painting, etc. Huge thanks to my friend @rj-palmer.com for instrumental crits and redlines during the sculpting process.
