Alright y'all, this is it! The final stretch for the game industry hardship fund. We've got $13k to raise in 14 hours to meet the final goal, I think we can do it. itch.io/b/3802/game-...

In response to the unprecedented number of game developers laid off this year, we have created a bundle on itch to benefit a Game Industry Hardship Fund, managed by @videogameworkers.bsky.social. More than 100 games for 10+ bucks! Please share widely and donate generously! itch.io/b/3802/game-...

I'm not in the UK, so I can say this: I think JK Rowling is a murderer, she has absolutely been responsible for deaths, probably far more than one, and should be punished accordingly

Remember that folks in the UK can’t speak their honest feelings because she can (and does) immediately use her country’s legal system surrounding defamation to threaten them into silence, so we have to be twice as vocal for them: JK Rowling’s a hateful, bigoted, and transphobic disgrace to society.

Please boost this because this is a HUGE ISSUE. The developers Mandragora have refused to note that GenAI was used in the development of #ReStory, going against Steam TOS in doing so. Several users have brought this to their attention via Steam and the use was denied each time. - 1/5

I need Minnesota to get it together. ‪Electing Craig — who opposes abolishing ICE, voted to thank ICE and for the Laken Riley Act — in the state where Renée Good and Alex Pretti were murdered would be a complete and utter disgrace to their memory.

Please blow up the public comment (included below): BREAKING NEWS (7/15) — The administration wants to destroy Chaco Canyon without consulting Tribal Nations. It’s an irreplaceable historic & cultural site with 4,700 archeological sites that could be lost to the bulldozers of oil & gas development

If you're intimidated by drawing mecha: They are often simpler than humans, actually. Make them out of blobs and cylinders. A Zaku is much much easier to draw than a Gundam. Start with simpler shapes, and think more about proportions. Avoid hard edges which are trickier to draw in perspective.

Okay. Here's people's chance to put their money where their mouth is. If they're actually serious about trying to force Sony to backtrack, they have to completely ignore this trailer (and the game, and Intergalactic, and whatever else) and not just anger-bomb a social media manager.

So In response to this, I've been seeing some people doing a thing I've seen for years - Smugly going "Um, Actually, GL is fascist because Spiral Power is the fascist desire for willpower to overcome material reality!" ...You mean the guys who then made Kill La Kill are fascist? 1/x

It's not easy. You'll need a method to your madness, because in a straight fight you'll lose. You'll need other people as well, and to combine your strength with them. And you will lose people close to you, and it will hurt. And just because you win, that doesn't mean you have all the answers. 15/x

But don't give up. Keep digging, no matter what, because even if you might fail, if you give up, then nothing will change. And if they tell you that it's Impossible? That your desire for something kinder is unreasonable? Then do the Impossible, and kick reason the curb. 16/16

It's not wrong to focus on survival. To try & protect only the people who you can. Despite everything, there is a recognition that the people who do that aren't acting out on malice, but a cruel algebra of necessity. What else is there to do, when change is impossible? ...But what if it's not? 13/x

What if there was a 'surface'? A place we could live without cave ins? What if we didn't have to limit ourselves to 50 people, or a million people? What if we couldn't just save a colony ship, but everyone on the planet? What if we could end this universal cycle of death and oppression? 14/x

Gurren Lagann is, at its core, a story about people being told constantly that better things can't happen, that the death and suffering of the world they live in is the best of all possible worlds. To radically change this is treated as reckless and foolish. 11/x

And why should they believe differently? Giha has been underground so long the idea of the surface is a myth. 'The Heavens' are endless soil over their heads. They don't even know the mass graves of Spirals who tried and failed in the stars. 12/x

No matter how I look at it... I cannot see it, unless I wilfully butchered Umberto Eco's Ur Fascism to force it to fit a point. This isn't saying GL is perfect - there's a solid argument that a different resolution to the Spiral Nemesis might ease some elements. But that the show is Fash? Nah. 9/x

Look, I could ramble on about this forever, but I gotta wrap this up at some point. I could point out Simon recognising that the future is for the next generation, the way the show refuses to make its main antagonists simply 'evil', but I'll just sum up what I see in GL 10/x

If spiral power is fascisms belief willpower can overcome material realities, why is Kamina, the most macho person in the show, Dai Gurrens inspiration, Someone who dies heroically in a way fascists are obsessed with also the person with the lowest spiral power in the series? 7/x

Because Kamina is a coward, who has no actual self confidence. and yet, if that's the case, why does the show not tear into Kamina? Why does he not get treated as a fraud, but instead become someone revered? This makes no sense in a fascist show, where the world is built upon domination. 8/x

Damn, for a bunch of Fascists, Kazuki Nakashima, Masahiko Otsuda, and everyone else who worked on both GL and KlK sure did manage to walk ass backwards into making a show that seems real critical of authoritarian, traditionalist, hierarchical power structures. Or maybe like. That read is wrong? 5/x

If GL is Fash, why does Rosseau live? Why does he, not simon, become their future leader? Why does the show emphasise how Dai Gurren aren't good peacetime leaders? Why is the spiral nemesis actually acknowledged as a problem that must be dealt with, and not a trick by an enemy strong yet weak? 6/x

The show that has an episode where our protagonists try to work inside the system to try to take it down, only for Mako to start supporting the system because it now benefits her? Where all the one-star uniform holders are a faceless mass, surrendering their personhood to be tools of the State?3/x

Where Ragyo literally is wearing a highly traditionalist wedding dress in her final battle, cementing what she represents in the narrative? The show which has as a theme that using authoritarianism to defeat authoritarianism can never work, hence why Satsuki's multi-year plan for revenge fails? 4/x

The show that starts off with a teacher giving a lecture about how Hitler came to power? The show that outright says to the camera "Hey Japanese school uniforms are based on military officer uniforms, that's kinda fucked up, right?" 2/x

Abolish the death penalty as a legal penalty for human beings. Institute it exclusively as a legal penalty for those deemed human beings under the law who put themselves beyond human accountability: corporations, world leaders, and billionaires.

Termination without cause in Japan is complex and workers have a lot of rights and protections we don't in the US. If Japan had employment laws as weak as ours, Nintendo would undoubtedly lay off workers just the same. It's not management's benevolence or farsightedness, it's labor law.

You know what Nintendo does when they have a surplus set of devs from cancellations or production ending? Put them on other projects. The ability to redeploy headcount while keeping teams together over time is like, the main strategic benefit of scale in the game industry
