I realllllllly like this book!
Two-and-a-half years after the UK hardback, the US paperback of the "terrifically entertaining" (NYT), "delightfully witty" (Slate), "clever and voluminous" (Guardian) Everything Must Go is out now this week so I am promoting it for the last time I promise www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/709872...
Really love having a deepest dive on a game with this many strengths and weaknesses! Fascinating discussion.
The Deepest Dive on Control Resonant is now live! Join @haleyfax.bsky.social, @leovader.com, @jacobgeller.com, and @yozetty.bsky.social as they kick off the best, most thorough discussion about Remedy's new game on the internet. youtu.be/hSHR5neG2js
There is no one better than Ashley at making basic-ass news and previews GENUINELY compelling to read. I do not know how she does it. The most obvious hire in the world.
is there a better word than devastated? (shattered? fly-swatted?) anyway i've been laid off. i joined gamesradar+ as a freelancer in 2023, and the site had my lifelong admiration by the time i became a senior writer in 2024. i'll miss it lmk if u need a creepy🧟♀️ gurl: ashleybardhan(at)gmail(dot)com

Only on Nebula, you also get this interview where I and @jumpovertheage.com talk way more about mushrooms and about how designing a game infects your brain (plus more Signet City details!!) nebula.tv/videos/jacob...

Ace Combat 8 embargo up. It's the best game in the series. It's one of the best games of the year. Miracles do exist.
Ahead of Ace Combat 8's release, I feel like my potentially blasphemous ranking of the series (that I've played) is: Five > Four > Six > Zero > Seven which feels kinda nuts to write out but also the delta between the first and last on that list is tiny.

Six has my favorite musical theme also: youtu.be/YhdNjzX4waA?...

Great article on how sheriff's deputies in Durham, N.C. are referring people to ICE for very minor offenses. The cooperation between local cops and the immigration goon squads is a growing stain on America indyweek.com/news/durham-...
I've been struggling with Townfall, but seeing positive reviews from folks like Lewis make me want to persevere.
Silent Hill: Townfall is good — very good, in fact. Especially the sequence in a municipal-style high rise building which plays like a slow-burn, Ballardian take on The Raid. It's a game less of psychosexual terror than psychosocial dread: I was hooked. www.theguardian.com/games/2026/s...

As a Wolverine Hater™, it's been disappointing to see so much of the conversation focus on stuff like the QTEs, which I really don't think are the failure points of the game. But I guess it's the easiest thing to post dumb-looking clips of!
What Resident Evil 4 tells us about why Wolverine's QTEs don't work, and it's not the lack of fail states that people keep complaining about https://kotaku.com/missing-fail-states-arent-the-problem-with-marvels-wolverines-qtes-its-everything-else-2000735298
