If you are in the US and you would like to send a message to your elected representative about the proposed dissolution of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, @agu.org makes it easy with a template here: agu.quorum.us/campaign/151... #AGU25

agu.quorum.usSave NCAR from being dismantled today! The Trump Administration has vowed to dissolve the center that provides critical extreme weather and climate data for our nation.

They continue to kill everything that actually makes America great. F'n asshats.

USA TODAY@usatoday.com

Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

Trump’s militarization of D.C. is escalating without any practical objective and no end point, @dgraham.bsky.social argues in The Atlantic Daily. “That raises the scary prospect that it could just go on forever—or slide into martial law around the country.”

bit.lyHow Does Trump’s Federal Takeover End?The president has opened the door to a permanent military occupation of the nation’s capital—and maybe other cities too.

"Under discussion are plans to hold a public debate about climate science, write a line-by-line rebuttal of the National Climate Assessment and ready a counterattack against climate scientists critical of last month’s Energy Department report." 🤪

eenews.netTrump team readies more attacks on mainstream climate scienceThe plans include a public debate on global warming. Scientists say that falsely implies the major tenets of climate research are unsettled.

Sitting on my porch, enjoying a beer on a cool summer night in Delaware. What strikes me is that these kinds of nights were the norm growing up. How quickly the collective "anti-warming" folks have forgotten what summer used to be like. How do you forget comfort and enjoyable times like this?

There are days, like today, where I long to have a conversation with my mom. It's been 11 years since she passed, and no matter how old you are, how confident or experienced in life, sometimes you need a trusted mom conversation.

Walked into the hotel gym this morning, older dude putzing around on the machines (alpha complex vibes). Fox news was on the TV. I saw that, said 'fuck this shit' and turned it off. He promptly left. I feel good about that decision.

I remember as a kid, the go to response for tragedy was I'll keep you in my prayers. Very seldom were there offers of help or intentional proactive action. It's always been a cop-out. Religion enables self-righteousness, ignorance and historically a lot of violence.

Finally… I’ve been waiting for someone to cover this story. So sad. Climate[dot]gov has always been one of my favorite go-to resources to share.

This is one the most authentic, frustrating, and alarming inside looks at what pressure, cuts and "forced" retirement have done to a critical National Weather Service forecast office. Worth a read to illustrate what many of us have been saying www.nbcnews.com/science/scie...

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

Edward Nirenberg@enirenberg.bsky.social

I worry that not enough of a big deal is being made about how long-term the devastation of these budget cuts to our scientific and health agencies will be, beyond the absolute ruin they will cause in the acute period.

Atmosphere folks: easterly winds - comes from the east, heads west Ocean folks: westward current, comes from the east, heads west Paper: the westward current driven by the easterly winds Me: what direction again? has to draw picture

1/2 Today in Minneapolis, ICE/FBI raided a taco restaurant, yes, you read that correctly, a taco restaurant, dressed in full battle gear—long guns, body armor, the whole damn militarized show. Do they think they’re in a war zone? This is about instilling terror, rooted in racism. It won’t work.

So, what will it be by 2073, democracy or fascism? The movie shows the dystopian future that very well may be our reality as our global society hurls through time, accelerated by technology, unable to grab the wheel or hit the brakes. This is a wake-up call kind of film.

ClimateGuyRy@climateguyry.bsky.social

Watching the movie 2073 - and well, damn. It is a unique mix of fiction intertwined with documentary and summarizes quite effectively the global trend towards racism and authoritarianism using news coverage clips. Worth a watch, but depressing too. youtu.be/YDE97KrYDuU?...

Americans think nothing bad will ever happen to them when something new and horrible happens to them every single day in the form of executive orders, court rulings, and laws passed.

Climate change deniers are the flat earthers of a dying planet except their delusion isn’t harmless, it’s a death cult dragging everyone down with them. Blind and historically complicit. Future generations will view them the same way we view plague doctors who licked wounds.

Moving the propaganda / gaslighting tactics to the EPA now I see. This is infuriating, yet, no longer surprising and that's even scarier.

Alt National Park Service@altnps.bsky.social

What?!?! The EPA has drafted a plan to eliminate all pollution controls from coal and gas-fired power plants. The agency claims these plants “do not contribute significantly” to dangerous pollution or climate change, arguing their emissions are a small and declining share of global totals.
