eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

LNER going for an ad strategy that is localised enough to name the correct city but not localised enough to realise the phrasing is going to annoy the city in question.

Also thinking about the time the taps stopped running. Immediately went out and bought several huge bottles of water to ride it out. The water was off for half an hour

I’m in the opposite situation, moving house this month and currently trying to eat all the food in the kitchen rather than have to bring it with me

The government must know full well that many people have neither the space nor the money to store extra food in their homes. It is individuating responsibility for a collective problem. As usual, it is the poorest and most excluded who will suffer from it. 🧵 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

There are loads of different ways of looking at this. My personal favourite is that, as the crow flies, Manchester Piccadilly is closer to the south coast of the Isle of Wight than it is to Dundee.

All of Lancashire, and all of Yorkshire, are closer to the south coast of England than they are to the north coast of the Scottish mainland.

Reminds me of a former colleague tbh

Google AI confidently delivers something that might be the answer, or might be utter tosh. I've seen it deliver tosh enough times, for subjects that I know about, to distrust it for everything.

I tried to do something with the help of Claude Code that to be fair was impossible, and I did enjoy its assessment of its performance: “…every time … the result has been a different flavour of wrong”

Musk could probably afford to turn Washington into his own Tracy Island at this point. Demolish the East Wing and build a circular gallery, with a rocket launching out the middle Thunderbird 3 style. Make the Reflecting Pool retract to reveal another rocket. Retractable trees.

Okay but What would YOUR totally gratuitous White House lawn event be, if YOU were the mad king of a dying superpower

Fair enough if you spend more than 5500 £ of embezzled money on high-end coffee machines. But then spending a further 81.16 £ on Nescafé Gold Blend? Straight to jail.

It seems that @proton.me have fundamentally degraded the usability of the Drive iOS app, and slipped out the change in a “Bug fixes and performance” update. It’s deeply frustrating as a user, and makes it difficult to recommend Drive to those wishing to de-Google themselves.

I look forward to how all the "but he's so good at foreign policy" Starmtroopers rationalise "loosening sanctions on Russia because doing anything to reduce fuel consumption is too scary and hard". Grim we still have to have this weak, visionless idiot in power for at least a few more months

It makes me wonder what would happen if I phoned up the MOD and told them I had the robot that they lost. Just, you know, speculatively. To find out if they’d lost any robots at that particular time.

I’m just thinking about how Stephanie Speck phoned up and asked, “I'd like to speak to one of your head warmongers, please” and actually got through to one of them.

The party led by Six Boats Offord came third in a contest that was all about boats.

It never ceases to amaze me how many election pundits don’t understand the dynamics of First Past the Post, and how vote-splitting works under the UK’s electoral system. John Curtice does. Listen to John Curtice.

A new ad uses a line from Norway's most famous anti-fascist poem in a disturbing way, and LLMs can't spot the connection until I ask very leading questions. Could this be an example of an ad inspired by brainstorming with an AI that doesn't get cultural references? jilltxt.net/du-ma-ikke-s...

This is where the debate should be, rather than on the distraction of North Sea drilling. What can government do to move faster on clean tech and green buildings? Can it afford to be more ambitious and demand new homes are passivhaus and zero bill? How quickly can it bring down fossil fuel reliance?

💥Russian interference in Hungary’s election campaign and the Kremlin’s open support for Viktor Orbán are now a key issue. No wonder this guy and his Matryoshka creation were very popular at today’s opposition march in Budapest

FACTS: Net Zero barely nudges your bill. Fossil‑fuel wars send it through the roof. So when Farage and his ilk slags off renewables while fanning conflict, remember who actually hikes your costs.

The wealth of individuals should be limited in the same way that the power of politicians is limited, and for the same reasons. Wealth equals power, and it is entirely unchecked.

How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.
