jfc making systems heavy game is hard. every feature has to be coded so fucking good or else it’s worthless to me. starting with game systems is just so unnatural to me, nothing has priority so it doesn’t matter what i work on for SO long because it’s not testable yet

ok so i watched one old video on youtube and for the last 2 weeks now its basically only recommended me things that are like 9-15 years old and i was like UGH STUPID ALGORITHM that not how... sigh. but i didn't realize how much amazing shit i'd missed so its actually kinda awesome catching up

i am not a very nostalgic person, as a rule, so i have not kind of special love for old things. but i *have* missed a lot of really wonderful creative work over the years and kind of almost meticulously going through it has been filling some big gaps

fun fact, ikenfell also used gotos (but in C#). it is probably my most anti-social habit, but i promise the code is very sensible and easy to follow lol

gonna probably stream some work on da game around ~1:30-2:00. i’ve done a big reorganization and refactor since the last stream and the entire game structure is infinitely better now lol

i wasn’t really aware of the details of the canopy project until one of the days i called in to a city call session and while waiting i saw them give their annual report and i was just really impressed with how organized and thoughtful their process was. metrovancouver.org/services/reg...

one thing i like about button/controller interfaces so much is that the “cursor” or active area of the UI is a singleton, you are only ever currently in one part of it. i hate mouse UI’s where you’re just using this stupid fucker that floats overtop of everything like an asshole
