My first thought this morning? Victoria and Vancouver will need to work together to counter the cuts and setbacks that are coming.
Harm reduction, non-market housing finance, housing density, etc, are all on the chopping block.

Let’s hold the line.
A Florida man was found dead in his home during a welfare check in July 2022. Weeks later, one of the officers who discovered his body moved into the home and spent years impersonating him, according to investigators.
Since 2016, London’s cycling network has grown fivefold, from 90 to 450 kilometres.
The results? 1.5 million daily cycle journeys—a 43% increase since 2019—twice as many bikes as cars on City of London streets during the day, and motor traffic in steady decline—having fallen 25% in the same period.
This is private equity, this is what it does.
Buy up businesses, run them into the ground, and rip them apart for short-term profit.

For four years, we've been told Vancouver is full of bad neighbours.
We need a change. There's only one team with a plan for you to have a voice, a place, and a future in Vancouver.
Vote OneCity for City Council, Park Board, and School Board on Saturday, October 17, 8am-8pm.
Saturday decides who runs City Hall for the next four years.
Ads don’t get out the vote, neighbours do.
We need people on doors, on phones and at the polls this weekend. Shifts are short, no experience is needed, and the company is excellent.

A big supporter just went out and made me a “Vote for Lucy” Strava map! 💕 Get out and vote for all 13 @onecityvan.bsky.social candidates this Saturday!
The B.C. Conservatives are saying their candidate for Vancouver-Strathcona, Jordan McIntosh, won't sit with them if elected after it was revealed that he had a Twitter account where he was casting doubt on the Holocaust
We can't tell you how to vote for mayor, but we can tell you that it's safe to vote for a voice, a place, and a future for all Vancouverites.
• Better Community Centres
• More Child Care
• Safer Streets
This Saturday October 17th, vote OneCity for Council, Park & School Boards before 8

One day to go, one last ride. 🚲
Before election day, we’re going back to where OneCity started: active transport. It’s why Safe Mobility anchors our platform — and why Vision Zero Vancouver gave us an A+ on road safety.
So we’re closing this election the only way that makes sense: with a Bike Bus.
Christopher Lee 李基鵬 wants students to be able to access the kind of extracurricular programming that helps them shape their own future.
We can do that with a commitment to school programming and educational supports.
Vancouver election day is this Saturday 17 October. If you want affordable, accessible housing choices in every neighbourhood, vote for the entire @onecityvan.bsky.social slate.
Here is what Ford wants to rip out.
In a city stuck in debilitating gridlock, nothing better than removing bike lanes and getting more people driving.

Today is the *last day* to VOTE EARLY. You can vote at any polling location.
Hey, if you vote today, then you can spend all day Saturday helping your friends and family vote on Election Day.
Vancouver's election isn't easy for pro-housing voters. Here are my endorsements:
✅ Vote for ALL OneCity Candidates + Armor Valor
And I have one major anti-endorsement:
❌ NO on Stephanie Smith (Green)

Iona Bonamis 陶思穎 wants you to be able to get around town quickly and safely without a car. We can achieve that with faster buses, active transport corridors, and housing choice citywide.
Vote for Iona and the whole OneCity team tomorrow, Oct 13 or Saturday, Oct 17.

🗳️ Vancouver: advance polls 8am to 8pm today. Vote at any polling station.
If you're intimidated by the unfamiliar parties and candidates, I made a quick 12 question quiz based some of the more interesting votes city council made over the past term.

There is so much at stake in this election. The latest announcement of Ken Sim and ABC would delay and politicize decisions for sidewalks, bike and bus lanes, inevitably impacting road safety. This is not what our City needs.
There is Advance voting tomorrow(Sat.) and on Tuesday. So get out to vote!
A school board plans a school. A park board plans a park. The City plans the housing, the business permits, and the street in between.
Nobody plans the whole neighbourhood.
Here's the plan to fix that. 💜

This morning we joined HUB staff, volunteers, and families on a bike bus ride to Florence Nightingale Elementary School. The Ride-Along was part of HUB Cycling’s Streets for Tomorrow, Today campaign, to make it safer and easier for kids & youth to walk, bike and roll in their communities.
“The city’s transition away from the car, tho fantastically chaotic, has become a global role model. Under mayor Anne Hidalgo, Paris was ‘the most influential city in the world’ says Canadian urbanist Brent Toderian. Hidalgo, stepping down after 12 yrs, exulted: ‘The bike beat the car.’” #Paris
Iona hates traffic. On City Council, she'll fix it.
Early voting in Vancouver's local elections is on TODAY, 8am-8pm.
And you can vote for Iona Bonamis 陶思穎, and elect an honest to goodness transportation planner to City Council.
Ken Sim probably voted early. Will you?
Vancouver friends! Second day of advance voting is today.
In my newsletter today, I explain why Vancouver’s historic climate leadership hangs in the balance in this municipal election. And, for those curious, I share how I'm casting my ballot:

I've been to 3 election events now. ABC has avoided public scrutiny at the mayoral, council, and school board level.
Mike Klassen and Lisa Dominato did show up to a Cedar Cottage event - gave an intro and then ran away before they could be asked a question.
They don't deserve to be re-elected.
Distraction is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in our region and province. We hope that all candidates take that seriously, especially those from a party campaigning on public safety.

Victoria Drive, Vancouver: an old storefront that the city says can’t be used for commercial use anymore, and a garden store that is grandfathered in and would have to shut down permanently if the owners ever take a break
And your Last Candidate Standing is... @fabulavancouver.bsky.social! 🏆️
Honourable mention to OneCity's @lucymaloney.bsky.social for her gracious second place finish. Lucy, you won first place in prop usage (in our hearts).
Vehicle crashes are a significant source of preventable injury and death in Vancouver, and traffic-related fatalities have skyrocketed under ABC, who have taken no meaningful steps to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, seniors, and schoolchildren. We can change that.
Commute got you down? We can fix that. OneCity Candidate Iona Bonamis 陶思穎 outlines Project Greenlight, which could save you weeks of your life in traffic.
If you want City Hall to help you get you where you're going faster, volunteer, donate, and VOTE OneCity.

This is the "Three/Four" - an accessible passive house 9 plex that could work citywide within existing R1 zones.
To work it would need:
1. Remove (or) increase the unit cap beyond 6 units
2. Increase max height ~3m
3. Increase building depth (but keep the same lot coverage)
4. Remove density fees

I made a tool to analyze and grade the voting records of the Vancouver City Council.
Who was the best on housing? Or transportation?
If you don't like my grading scheme, you can easily override it with your own and share that.

Isn't it weird how ABC said they'd build new community centres in the neighbourhoods they need votes in? We're just asking questions...
Caitlin Stockwell and the OneCity Council Team will stop playing politics with your community centres — and focus on building *more of them*.
