They announced the new Mass Effect in 2020. It was shut down 6 years later when BioWare was 50 people. That’s like, the hair team on an Assassin’s Creed game. Blame EA for mismanagement, or even buying them in the first place. But, these leaks feel like vibe checks and not a full design doc.

I also get that people have an association with this brand, and that’s a larger problem with games now. Creators are hidden behind PR. If you love ME, show up for Exodus. No kickstarter or petition is going to bring the doctors out of retirement or reassemble the team who made that trilogy.

And it’s funny to think about the standard we used to have. That game got an EGM Silver, was pressed to a disc with a full ass manual and sold for full price.

When Evercade Nexus arrives next week, you'll instantly be able to play the entire Evercade library of phsyical cartridges. That's over 80 carts and more than 700 games - straight away. So, aside from Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie or DOOM, what are you playing first?

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Fun to see this great podcast about old gaming magazines finally cover an issue I worked on, pretty much smack dab in the middle of my OPM tenure. I can't listen to it all right now, but I'll offer some commentary along the way as I get through it. 🧵

It's FunFactor FUUUUUUUUUUESDAY! Come for the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, stay for games we missed out on and the 5 star review of Sly Cooper, then tag along for the afterparty with, uh, @scalzi.com?? It's Official PlayStation Magazine #62!

So I bought Dino Crisis 3 all the way back in the PS3 days. Went to download onto my PS5 from my console. Got a CE-112987-8 error. Which, according to reddit, I have to log into the PS app to send it to my console. I...I fucking hate PlayStation so much in the year 2026.

Going on CBC Edmonton AM to talk about BioWare shutting down because people listening to public radio at 7:30 in the morning need to know this is important

I saw ClayFace. It was okay. I think I expected more from a story by Mike Flannigan. I could think of a few ways to somewhat have it make it a bit more cohesive.

Wait, wait. I SHOULDN’T believe what I read online?!

dlvr.itMarvel’s Wolverine Proves You Shouldn’t Always Trust What You See On Social MediaDespite mixed reviews and lukewarm player reception, Marvel's Wolverine has done surprisingly well on the sales chart and set a new record for Sony. New data shared by Circana shows Marvel’s Wolverine debuted as September's best-selling game, delivering the highest launch-month dollar sales for a Sony-published game since February 2024’s Helldivers 2. PlayStation 5 hardware dollar sales also increased by 43%, resulting in Sony achieving its highest hardware dollar share in a month since May 2025--no doubt thanks to a PS5 costing more today than it did last year. "Marvel’s Wolverine was the best-selling game of September in full game dollar sales, debuting as 2026’s 11th best-selling game overall, Circana's Mat Piscatella wrote, adding that out of the top ten best-selling games of September in the US, eight of those games were new releases. Marvel's Wolverine had plenty of competition last month in the form of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, but it still managed to take the top spot in that category--not too bad for a game that was only available on a single platform in a crowded month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nGnaG7kVIA&t=2s&pp=0gcJCSwMAYcqIYzv Piscatella had previously spoken about how Marvel's Wolverine had broken a live-service stranglehold on the PlayStation charts, ranking seventh on Circana's Top 10 Titles by weekly active users in the US. Sony hasn't commented on the game's overall sales performance yet, but estimates suggest Marvel’s Wolverine has sold 1.9 million units as of September 18, with physical sales accounting for 799,000 units. That's a solid number, but not enough to help it break into the top 10 best-selling games of 2026 in the US, according to Circana. NBA 2K26 is currently the top seller in the US, pushing Resident Evil Requiem to second place, with other games like 007 First Light, MLB: The Show 26, and Pokemon: Pokopia filling the remaining spots. GameSpot's Marvel's Wolverine review scored the game an 8/10, with editor-at-large Tamoor Hussain describing it as a "fun but forgettable" experience. Top 10 Best-Selling Games Ranked on Physical & Full Game Digital Dollar Sales Rank Title Last Month 1 NBA 2K27 3 2 Resident Evil: Requiem 1 3 007 First Light 2 4 MLB: The Show 26 4 5 Crimson Desert 5 6 Call of Duty: Black Ops II 6 7 Forza Horizon 6 7 8 Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream 8 9 LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight 9 10 Pokemon: Pokopia 10

The first draft is done. 🎉 A life in games *in games*. Some bits have previously been published: Chasing Lilacs (Dublin Review, CTRL anthology), Conception and What We Shared (TOLKA), The Wild Field and Patch Notes (The Stinging Fly). I will give it a rest for a bit and then editing begins.

Me: I don’t know if I want to start SOTN today. There’s no way I’m going to beat it before Belmont’s Curse comes in the mail. I’m the reverse castle hours later.
