Rare Ltd.

40 years of @rare.co.uk. From devoted Rare gamers to single-series stalwarts, we want to show our appreciation for anyone who's visited even just one of our worlds. For keeping an assorted ragtag of creatives working magic in the Midlands, only two words will do: THANK YOU 💙💛

We may be busy with a Community Weekend on the @seaofthieves.com, but there's always time for #FanArtFriday! Or at least our boss said there better be, so we found some, yay! An Instagram duo here, with Battletoads' Big Blag from tomasz.cwik and a custom SoT ship by nuffins_art.

One week till you can get your grubby little mitt on the @evercade.co.uk Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack, and play it on whatever Evercade device you get your other grubby little mitt on. Or clean big mitts, or any combo of hygiene and grabber size. DEETS: evercade.co.uk/cartridges/b...

We got Outfit Saving in Sea of Thieves before GTA VI.

Overheard at Rare: "Ooh! That's a big digger!"

Hold your plate up, we've got some lovely line art for this week's helping of #FanArtFriday. Look, there's The Great Mighty Poo being all big mouthed, courtesy of ColourMeFun and a completely nonthreatening underwater @seaofthieves.com scene by mrsmaloux, both from Twitter/X. Eat up!

Hold your plate up, we've got some lovely line art for this week's helping of #FanArtFriday. Look, there's The Great Mighty Poo being all big mouthed, courtesy of ColourMeFun and a completely nonthreatening underwater SeaOfThieves scene by mrsmaloux, both of Twitter/X. Eat up!

For this #FanArtFriday, we present a pair of certified baddies. Yes, that's definitely the right use of that word in 2026, and we won't hear any different. Both found on Tumblr, SeaOfThieves' Captain Flameheart comes from kokosnusslos while Gruntilda is the work of zeeladraws.

Blast Corps (1997)

What's that coming over the hill, is it a monster? No, it's #FanArtFriday! How have jpgs gained the sentience/ momentum to achieve that? Don't question it, look: Viva Piñata Fudgehog by softieautumnpuppy and a sly SeaOfThieves pirate from _3vicky3_, both from Instagram! LOVELY!

Good week? Well it's about to get even better, because here's that #FanArtFriday post you've been waiting for! Oh yes you have. Just look at that Conker and Berri by HansCuff, and the superb @seaofthieves.com group from ArtsLupi, both of Twitter. LOVELY! Go and appreciate them, right now.

Sea of Thieves is free to play from now until September 21st! To celebrate #TalkLikeAPirateDay, we're giving everyone the perfect playground in which to practise their piratical parlance, so invite friends and family, wherever they play, to join you and set sail!

Rash is always smiling through the punching, but we're not sure why Joanna's got such a grin. Deep diving conspiracy documentaries? Not important. Marketable plushies, available from Youtooz. Links below, have at 'em. 🔫 youtooz.com/products/joa... 🐸 youtooz.com/products/ras...

You'll enjoy #FanArtFriday this much. It's lots, we're holding up a big number. Both from Instagram this week: the very chuffed Conker is by leandro_lasanhas while the @seaofthieves.com art study comes from the hand of oliver_concept_art. Now, away with you!

So, who's been hitting SharpClaws on the head this week? Anyone for the first time? We look back fondly on Star Fox Adventures - yes, even Prince Tricky - so it's great to see it on Nintendo Switch 2. Remember: you can activate widescreen in the options before you load a file!

The piratey, Dream-inspired Banjo and Kazooie comes from Tumblr's MewyMarsher while the moody @seaofthieves.com Servant of the Flame is by VampFlore, also of the place named after a cup. And that's #FanArtFriday for another week, as time marches unstoppably on. Have a nice weekend!

Football's done so let's get back to our regular, hashtag-mandated appreciation. #FanArtFriday this week comes from Twitter/X, with smashing Battletoads work by gaspitoon and a terrifying SeaOfThieves vision by Captain_Shadow8. Good Stuff, now have a Good Weekend, Or Else.

And that's football! Over £63,000 raised for @specialeffect.org.uk, and a lovely 11-1 victory for Rare Ltd over Playground Games in the final match - powerful! An almighty thank you to anyone who said hi in chat, those who helped make it happen and everyone who took part.

Time to do the One Big Game thing again to raise more moolah for @specialeffect.org.uk! Over the next 24 hours, some of the best (or at least the most enthusiastic) UK game dev ball-booters will face off in the matches below. Tune in and learn how to donate: twitch.tv/Xbox

#FanArtFriday post! Pair from Instagram this week: @seaofthieves.com scene by gutasvo.hms and Gruntilda puppet from scowlenes. If we could wish for anything, it would be more puppets. Well, if we could have anything, we'd probably wish for a curry, but more puppets is a close second.

Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, together on one @evercade.co.uk cartridge, oh what a beauty! Available October 30th and works in any Evercade device, so you can play Tooie on your Super Pocket Rare Edition's D-Pad if you really want to. Details here: evercade.co.uk/cartridges/b...

One Big Game is soon (August 13th-14th)! 24 hours of livestreamed footie played by games industry folk of varying skill! Raising money for @specialeffect.org.uk! But don't just take our exclamations for it, squidge your peepers around this video for a look at what it's all about:

Conker: Live & Reloaded's marvellous fuzz launching on XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC last week led to @steveburkemusic.bsky.social unearthing this recording session for the 2005 game, featuring young @robinbeanland.bsky.social own marvellous fuzz! Enjoy this rare peek behind the curtain...

Creatures huge and papery fill the #FanArtFriday frames this week thanks to this duo from Instagram. The big, hungry @seaofthieves.com Megalodon is from similyjay while the model of a petite Viva Piñata Pretztail is the work of ivoryshiek. And that's it for another week. G'bye!

Now that the World Cup is over, we can finally announce this year's true major ball-punting event: One Big Game is back! After a year off, the @rare.co.uk-organised 24-hour games industry footy marathon returns August 13th-14th to raise more dosh for @specialeffect.org.uk. Details soon!

Been a couple of weeks since we've had one so who's ready for an eye-massaging #FanArtFriday!? Oh yeah, you definitely are, person looking at these words. Behold the pastel @seaofthieves.com beauty from KaoChimo, then enjoy the bold hues of JJSponge120's Gruntilda, both from Twitter/X. FEEL RELAXED!

Overheard at Rare: "I have the exact same frog!"

Start #FanArtFriday post. Something about the heat. Pithy remark about the sun. Sentence about these images coming from Instagram. Conker and Berri by super.butter.scotch. @seaofthieves.com pirate by nurukk0. Final remark about now being a puddle. End post.

Our annual Pride Picnic encouraged staff to brave the UK heat in the name of #PrideMonth! The bright and bold celebrations served as a beautiful reminder that Rare welcomes everyone (and the factor 50 sunscreen on offer kept everyone's skin un-singed during the celebrations too).

The Hyper Mega Tech Super Pocket Rare Edition arrives this week! It's got 14 classic Rare games built-in including an optimised version of Banjo-Kazooie, plays @evercade.co.uk carts and we took some lovely photos of ours, just for you. If you're grabbing one, we hope you enjoy it!

'Battletoads' from Rare got quite a few accolades back in the day. A Nintendo Power Nester Award? Sweet.

Side by side, hand in hand, we all enjoy #FanArtFriday together! And what a pair from Twitter/X today: Banjo and '80s glam Kazooie from JuJuBee2008 and a peaceful @seaofthieves.com pair by the prolific hasmoq. Right, done, off you hop!

As Donkey Kong 64 has been on Nintendo Switch Online for a little over a week, we have to ask: has anyone been playing it for the first time!? Many of us here look back on it fondly, and it's fun to see it being rediscovered (with every Kong individually) all these years later.

We've got details of the next Sea of Thieves Community Weekend, a commemorative X25 Emote to mark @XBOX's 25th anniversary, some Silver Coin clothing and more, all delivered in the latest episode of Sea of Thieves News that you should find waiting just below these words: https://youtu.be/M5PW20Sgtqk

If we can find time to dig about on Instagram to bring you these #FanArtFriday highlights, then you can find time to do that thing you're putting off. Highlights are from supermimobroxx (Marvin from Conker's BFD) and agnes_stelmach (@SeaOfThieves painting). NOW GO DO THAT THING!

Overheard at Rare: "No idea, I've never put up a medieval pavilion tent."

🗝️ We're giving you the keys to the seas 🗝️ From hosting multi-crew hangouts and concocting competitive game modes, to simply snapping screenshots with a Free Camera, Season 20 invites all pirates to enjoy the Sea of Thieves session of their dreams with Custom Seas: https://youtu.be/D4usO7bCQ8I

We're seeing red. No, it's not the bloodlust setting in, it's just some #FanArtFriday highlights that share a big splash of the shade. From Twitter, the realistic Viva Piñata Sour Mallowolf is by GhosteBoergre while the @seaofthieves.com Madame Olivia piece is from Similyjay.

We're about to saunter off for a three-day weekend, but not before blessing your optic nerves with these #FanArtFriday beauts! From Instagram, the Viva Piñata Pretztail is the work of blackzodiacqx while the @seaofthieves.com duo is the work of both ghastly.demon and megaboatman.

Spotted as we drove onto the @rare.co.uk grounds this morning: strolling geese. Baby geese! POTENTIALLY WARRING FAMILIES OF GEESE! Well, hopefully not, but we've seen less aggressive glares in a boxing ring. Plenty of grass to go around now, no need to get feisty...

Good day fine Internet-scrolling person, please indulge us for a fine #FanArtFriday Twitter duo! Or don't, we're not your legal guardian. We will glare at you as you leave, mind. The Banjo-Kazooie piece is by Mar_Mar_Up and the cursed @seaofthieves.com pirate comes from KyarytaArt!

A tiger and a trio walk into a #FanArtFriday, which is an impressive feat for two pieces of art from Tumblr and a hashtag, but we needed some sort of intro didn't we? The Viva Piñata Tigermisu comes from millies-theme, while the @seaofthieves.com pirate crew is by snypi. GOOD STUFF!

Overheard at Rare: "I'd love to be a landlord. Let me in, I'm going to paint over your sockets!"

#FanArtFriday's here again bringing the colours, you just need to bring the exuberant praise! Preferably over on Instagram, where these came from. Go and big up the Battletoads piece on jcpxdesigns's page and angle Sea of Thieves sweetness towards maria_ronold_artwork. Thanks!

It may be Community Weekend in @seaofthieves.com, but right here it's time for a good old #FanArtFriday. A pair from Twitter/X this week, with the extremely characterful Banjo and Kazooie from DanDarkOne and a somewhat scary pirate from those aforementioned waters by ZoranDaemon.

Season 19 Community Weekend is now live on High Seas until March 30th (10am UTC)! Set sail for your free flag and Arm Wave Emote, set out on a search for sponge, boost the Community Emissary Grade multiplier by watching Sea of Thieves on Twitch and more! 🧵

Overheard at Rare: "The gentrification of jacket potatoes makes me so angry."

Our beloved Sea of Thieves is eight, and Instagram's gemmajohnsonart bestowed a beautiful bronze parakeet on us to celebrate! Also getting a #FanArtFriday highlight is Instagram's jrlunadesigns with their minimal, but still-intimidating, Fulgore from Killer Instinct. LOVELY.
