I can't believe this was only 20 days ago. I've since built a nearly complete space-tag-style game, and have started work on a second spooky top-down adventure. I'm learning pixel art at the same time, which is quite the thing. Still having fun!

I recently discovered the Godot game engine, and wow am I having fun building things with it.

Of all the things that facebook ruined, it was all the small clubs and events moving their online presence there. No more niche websites or forums. Just the dreary homogony of everything in the one same place - and assumption you were on facebook in the first place.

this really has been such a stupid loss of what was once one of the internet's purest pleasures

It's always a great sign when an interview with a scientist starts like this: Me: Hi there, thanks for talking to me. I'd like to ask you some questions about [thing]. Scientist: OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE [thing]!!! I could talk about [thing] for hours!!!!!

Who remembers these little pixel art pictures on their old mobile phone? No apps. No emoji packs. Just skulls, weed leaves, sexy logos and Madonna ringtones. The early 2000s were something else.

AI companies: This technology we’re developing is dangerous and might destroy humanity and we don’t know how to stop it Other people: So we should strictly regulate it, create legislative guard rails, and monitor its development? AI companies: lol no the opposite of all that & give us more money

I feel terribly sad for all those old-school Economy 7 teleswitch meters still out there, listening for a radio signal to switch them into off-peak mode that will never ever come now that they've switched off BBC Long Wave. Like V'Ger in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I'm sorry but "a huge number of NYC cabs now are remaindered EVs running grey market software written by some dude in a garage" is the most cyberpunk thing I've ever heard

I asked a driver how they service them since they’re no longer made. He said they have a guy they go to for all the software updates and all that. Even though, it has many missing typical car elements. (Like cruise control or power windows even I believe).

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

Controversial option: mozzarella cheese is not a good cheese. It's stringy, far too chewy, and doesn't even taste that much of cheese.

All error messages should be copyable. I'm so bored of having to transcribe some arcane error code just because some gobshite developer couldn't be arsed to find the setting to make their error messages appear as copyable text.

Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."

Happy solstice! The midnight sky in Sweden is something else. This is as dark as it gets, and a few hours later it's bright again. #midsummer #solstice

Very interesting thread on the science behind the whole algal bloom thing 💧

Since I did do my PhD in cyanobacteria growth and treatment optimization modeling AND work in the water treatment industry, I’m gonna share my theory as to what’s happening here and how to fix it. People are focusing on the painted bottom of the pool increasing residual heat, and while that 1/19

The old internet@theoldinternet.bsky.social

before wi-fi and 5g became a thing, you had to sit through two minutes of your computer screaming at you just to check your email.

No Garmin, I didn't have a 30 minute nap, I just had to keep very still on account of the sleeping pussy cat 😸

First mountain hike of the year yesterday, first 5k run of the year today. I think it's safe to say last year's tendon injury is finally healing up 💪😁
