Reality continues to prank me by not letting me wake up dead
I'm just going to lay here till things improve or I die. There isn't a point to doing anything
We were meant to go out today but that requires showering and we dont know what the point would even be
I'm just going to stare up at the ceiling and hope reality chooses to finally take me
my mans you canNOT get AI to do slight adjustments it will spit out a complete mess of a new thing and you just gotta keep gambling until what it gives you is good enough
the part of the Uchikoshi interview where he uses the idea of positioning something exactly to "match his vision" and how with a person it would get frustrating but AI would let him get it perfect gives me the idea that he has been told about AI way more than he has actually used it
is there not a petition for "get all the old bioware devs back together, give them a lot of money, and just let them cook" bc i thought we were all tired of endless sequels by now
My son was suspended from school for giving another student a "pigjob" and now we're all sitting around the empty dinner table as a family with our palms flat on the surface staring at nothing in particular in silence. It is understood none of us will ever ask what the word means.
it is genuinely wild to us that games have mostly done away with iterative sequels because like,
it's the ONLY medium you can really get away with that.
BREAKING WaPo:
Brazil's right-wing Flávio Bolsonaro just effectively conceded defeat to the incumbent left-wing president — minutes after Trump indicated he would not intervene on his behalf.
We kinda think the old style of there being an initial game that sets down the framework for mostly iterative sequels and related games for that entire gen was more healthy than every game needing to throw everything out now but
We used to get buckwild spin-offs and iterative sequels that used the same tools very differently because games looking almost exactly like the previous thing was normal.

my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite
I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive
the only way to have total direct control is to work by yourself... but even then you're limited by your own skills, time, money, and the physical realities of your world.
"bringing your vision to life perfectly" is a tantalizing wish... but it is a lie! and we must recognize it as one!
it also has me thinking about the role of the "director" (in games, film, TV, animation, etc.) and the amount of direct control is attributed to them vs. how much of the job involves delegating work and understanding that the work is created when the director's vision *meets* the other artists' work
The trend towards AI positivity in Japan absolutely fucking sucks. It should be understood why its happening though. There are seveal reasons (note this is a thread so read on through):
Every time a games person I respected at one point comes out as an ai asshole they reveal something that makes the work ethic created by working with them sound like a deeply unpleasant experience
Like, surely the solution is "okay how can we make this as painless a process as possible in future" not to get rid of all the cool artists and creatives you work with??????

Working in a team and finishing something all require a back and fourth and some level of compromise. If you can't do that without destroying the mental health of the people you work with I'm not surprised you were easily taken over by the rot
Like I get it, compromise from an initial vision you were passionate about can feel like shit... But it's an important skill to have when it comes to any craft and being pleasant to work with
i was surprised to find final fantasy iv snes does not look like final fantasy vi snes, but ever since around postps1-gba ports, square has succesfully flattened the entire "retro series" FF into one art style blob that's mostly vi-derived paste. I never knew what FFIV actually looked like?
"This remake is inviting new players into this world" is so condescending. Ohh wittle new players oooh you simply cannot handle playing games from 20 years ago...you're too wittle and dumb with your wittle brain
this is purely my own gut feeling and i’d love actual devs input, but i get the sense that on top of everything else collapsing, one of the big struggles in games is that the Normal Iterative Sequel, reasonably scoped and made on a quick schedule, seems to sell like six copies now
