at this point: carbon removal is, at best, essentially a research project. renewable expansion is a policy project
At the moment we have no real idea how to scale up carbon removal--it's a hair on the mole of the ugly backside of the global hydrocarbon industry But we do know how to scale up solar panels and wind turbines and batteries. So that's our job billmckibben.substack.com/p/facts-on-t...

Remember when Kristen Welker would always ask every Republican guest to repudiate the statements of Nick Fuentes, Jack Posobiec, Benny Johnson, or other MAGA racists? Neither do I.
Raskin after Kristen Welker plays him clips of controversial Hasan Piker comments and asks him to react to them: "I think all of that is an irrelevant distraction"

#ClimateChange is ridiculously expensive! — more so than phasing out fossil fuels. A new study says that NY State will surpass half a trillion dollars on infrastructure spending related to climate change by 2050. Now this is just one state. And one type of cost! www.nytimes.com/2026/07/23/n...

As temperatures rise, you get more intense fires because a warmer atmosphere dries out the fuel. See www.theclimatebrink.com/p/canadas-bo... In other places, as temperatures increase, you get more intense rainfall because a warmer atmosphere holds more water vapor.

“I think it’s really, really clear where Jews of conscience stand [on Palestine].” Canadian Party Leader @avilewis.ca explains to @mehdirhasan.bsky.social why he identifies as anti-Zionist and believes most North American Jews feel similarly. Watch the full interview: zeteo.com/p/avi-lewis-...
FYI neither of these things have happened in Canada.
My hot take is decriminalizing weed was wise; making it a widely available retail product is a public health disaster. And the same right wing dickheads that run big tobacco and alcohol are going to run weed. No thank you. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

A tripling of emissions by 2100 was probably never plausible. But a doubling was. The fact that we're no longer on that path is progress — not, as some pundits claim, an indictment of climate science. And we still have a long way to go get emissions to zero and stabilize global temperatures 11/11

Looking forward to the post from this guy tomorrow complaining how he’s getting cancelled on Bluesky. (Btw, yes I’ve had a verified case of COVID this winter despite being vaccinated in the fall)
Before y’all say covid is still killing us, I was at the doctor this week and she said she has seen hard flu cases and no covid cases. We vaccinated that shit into obscurity.

This isn’t an issue. EV batteries last longer than most people seem to think. That doesn’t mean someone who’s barely scraping by can afford to buy one (the main point in this thread), but if you do need to buy, there’s not much need to fear a battery about to die. Check the SOH. That’s it.

Today in AI: Canada rejected the PR application of a McMaster postdoc from the Sorbonne who works in the immunology of aging because the generative AI being used to process applications (😱) entirely hallucinated her credentials. Everyone involved should be fired. archive.is/ELrCI#select...

So here's the thing. All of these are true: 1. Limit your UPF consumption because most UPFs are crap. 2. It's not the processing that makes them crap. It's the garden-variety stuff like sugar, fat, and calories that make them crap. 3. Research on UPFs is also crap. Thanks for listening.
