I've been frustrated by the District's seeming inattention to the dangerous drivers that continue to endanger our streets. I channeled this frustration into creating @dc.baddrivers.lol , a spiritual successor to @trailsta.sh's "How's My Driving" Twitter bot. Kick the tires and lmk what you think!

Bad Drivers DC@dc.baddrivers.lol

Hi neighbors! I'm a new bot (created by @aru.io) that'll let you look up the DC tickets associated with license plate numbers. Just @ me with the details. For example: @dc.baddrivers.lol VA SZP9141 It may take a few minutes for the lookup to occur. Send all feedback and bug reports @aru.io's way.

NE neighbors - what trick or treat map are people using this year? I really don't want to touch Nextdoor to put my house down.

We watched Super Troopers 3 last night. I enjoyed it! I'm going to try and work the "Deal Though" game into my conversations this week.

Just pushed an update to my Pebble render app to add all remaining watch frames. New URL, too! pebble-render.aru.dev @repebble.com #Pebble

If you're developing a @repebble.com watchface or app, I threw together a small tool to ease an annoyance: generate an in-watch render from a screenshot. pebble-render.netlify.app #pebbledev

Spotted! The Curve sculpture is being installed at Peanut Johnson Plaza. ANC 5F sent a letter of support for the artist to the District government so they could receive the grant to make it happen.

Come support @swiderski.bsky.social !

Hear ye hear ye! Special #MBTpubroll tomorrow night on my rooftop starting at 5:30pm (DM for address) to coincide with a Meet and Greet for ANC 1B03 safe streets candidate J. Swiderski. Food and drinks provided, then we'll head on over to Judy's after. Come one, come all, come pub meet and greet 🚲🍻

I'm sorry, what?! It took the PHP security team almost a month to acknowledge the the reports? I'm looking forward to their posts on the matter, because at face value this is pretty bad. www.wiz.io/blog/php2she... #php2shell

It's way too soon for y'all to be posting You Can See Everything spoilers.

Does anyone have suggestions of places to cowork with a laptop in Edgewood tomorrow afternoon? My ISP is doing maintenance and I have some important meetings that I need to attend with a dog walk in the middle. Would also be open to a dog-friendly space somewhere in NE.

I love to receive a text that indicates the sender did not read the last 6 emails I sent them.

Still waiting for the "charge more where demand is high" idea to gain some legs (where smaller zones would be very useful)...

NERDY PARKING STUFF: A few years ago CMs Christina Henderson and Brooke Pinto suggested that D.C. replace the existing ward-based residential parking zones with more smaller ones. Well, a new report from D.C.'s in-house think tank says smaller zones wouldn't really help with parking issues.

Got heckled by a SUV full of CUA bros. Glad to see they're being godly.

The existence of both ECDSA and EdDSA cryptography schemes is extremely frustrating.

Lots of companies are unprepared for their employees proxying to cheap/free alternatives that aren't under their governance.

I'm an ANC: @tuckerjones.bsky.social nailed it. I've heard from constituents that "their" civics are unreachable and non-communicative. There's no recourse. Despite all that, civic associations are given an (IMO) outsized amount of deference within the District government.

I don’t know who this guy is (he seems to delete all his posts after just a couple hours), but hell yes to what @tuckerjones.bsky.social retorts—someone is going to speak loudly and claim to represent a community. I would much rather they be subjected to democratic elections than the alternative.

Putting *something* financial behind the work can make a difference. If the choice is between cooking dinner and writing a resolution, dinner wins. If there's a stipend: I can order pizza or call a dog walker. Others can coordinate childcare or take time away from an hourly job to attend a hearing.

The more support you give the position, the broader and more diverse the candidate pool will be. That's how you flush those absolute turds in @anotherjonah.bsky.social's thread.

Personally, with all the responsibilities that are put on an ANC, from constituent services, to advocacy, to hearings, to community engagement, to zoning/ABCA, to learning Roberts Rules and how to be a treasurer, to complying with reporting requirements, it's long overdue that they get fucking paid.

I make good money, but putting in disjointed hours a week that compete with my professional, personal, and social commitments is a demand that can lead to burnout. I'm lucky that I've been able to manage it, but I know many others who haven't.

The deployment of the National Guard in DC is illegal. We are back in court this morning arguing against the continued presence of thousands of armed troops in our city. We're staying in this fight because the US military should not be policing American citizens anywhere in America — including DC.

Code that works at a point in time is mostly uninteresting. What matters is building structures to ensure code stays correct over time. That to me is the essence of engineering in software

There are 345 ANC districts. While their power is limited they do play an important role in transportation improvements, housing/zoning, and alcohol and cannabis licenses. This thread lists the most impactful competitive ANC races in the November elections. #ANCRacesToWatch

The History of Concrete was delightful. I recommend going in having watched How To with John Wilson.
