Oil companies knew about the threat of global warming for decades. The chemical industry knew how microplastics can accumulate in vital organs for decades. Next time a company tells you something is safe, ask what they're hiding and how long they've known. e360.yale.edu/digest/chemi...

Frequently glossobuccalic. Knows just enough to be a danger to himself and others in a surprising number of areas. I'm not overweight, I'm underheight. "AI" is marketing hype, machine learning is the technology, copyright theft is the business model.

In 2 years, the world protected an area of ocean larger than the EU. About 5 million km² of ocean came under protection in the 2 years to April 2026, lifting global coverage past 10% for the 1st time. That’s the target countries agreed for 2020, albeit 6 years late buff.ly/CR7liDj #ShareGoodNewsToo

It absolutely sucks, but I am going to have to start building clauses into my freelance contracts about not feeding my draft work into these software systems. Aside from my stuff being plagiarised, it's also just exposing work to potentially millions of other people
Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

“Tech is inherently political” is not just about ideology, but about power, too. Yielding technological improvements to the adversary will have predictable outcomes. I’m really worried it will lock in power centralization in a way that will be impossibly hard to reverse. It’s already happening.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.
