Hi, folks. Writer, native Yinzer now in Pacific Time. Thinking of following me? I post on a wide array of topics. If your feed is all reposts from other sources, single topic content, lots of your OF/JFF grind, or just a constant flood of posts I will block, sorry. All the best, though!

My support is always with Dem candidates, but this excellent piece outlines some very real concerns about fundraising - and about party leadership. Between ActBlue and candidates who use NGP Van campaign software, I get at least a half dozen texts a day. In recent weeks, it's more like 20.

The New Republic@newrepublic.com

If you’re a Democrat with an email address or a phone, you get these pleas: A candidate needs your dollars. Democracy needs your dollars. It doesn’t have to be much—but it can’t be nothing. But where does your donation actually go? trib.al/skt74iy

Between this quote, "Pillion," and the film where he plays a sentient wicker basket in the shape of a man, Skarsgard is really representing a whole spectrum of queer love out there!

too many guys are bad-weird now, we need more with this kind of good-weird energy

An important note: domestic violence can come in many forms, including emotional abuse. My sister's experience with her emotionally abusive husband was a contributing factor in her death by suicide. Please share this info.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline provides 24/7 confidential assistance. To speak with a trained advocate, visit thehotline.org or text START to 88788.

I still don't have my ballot. My spouse's ballot arrived 2 weeks ago, a few days after it was mailed.

Out today: U.S. Postal Service’s cost-cutting measures have endangered the validity of ballots cast in rural areas, where late-arriving ballots soared in the primaries. With @kbmorales.bsky.social and @msweetharris.bsky.social: www.propublica.org/article/mail...

As a Pittsburgher, I know our local usage of "yinz" apparently came from "you ones" - an attempt to address a plural group - so it's fascinating to see the parallel of "that one."

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

In 1934, we added a gender-neutral pronoun for a single third person. ‘Thon’ was short for “that one.” It didn’t catch on.

These people don't have even a basic understanding of what those property taxes are covering. Maybe cities should abandon property taxes and start sending a la carte bills for everything. Or deny road access, waste water treatment.....

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Training period aside....I lasted a week at a bank branch. The managers of that particular branch (of a well known bank, in Columbus, OH) had very dedicated religious beliefs and made the employees pray with them. The anti-LGBTQ everything started on day 3, if I recall.

"Age yourself with an image of one of your earliest crushes" I'm so old that there are no existing GIFs of the guys I was crushing on back in the day. I'm not even sure there are daguerreotypes......

I went to college twice - once in the late 80s, and again in the 2010s to finish my BA (long story). The first had a dozen or so Greek organizations and one known specifically to be the least safe for women, so it was a known thing, an institution even then.

The second, though, was a small liberal arts school. I was on the school newspaper; we did several stories about campus rape. Every segment of the school's administration, security team, etc. shut our access down at every turn. A member of our staff was one of the victims. They never got justice.

Somebody Somewhere is too low. Downton Abbey is ranked way too high. And Wonderfalls is not anywhere on the list. (Though I guess with only 3 aired episodes it had its handicaps.)

“We sent all our information to the Chicago area. It’s really not our job to name him as a suspect,” Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said during the press conference Wednesday. “What we are looking for is … Do you have any information?”

The number of reels/TikToks et al that bleep out normal words is....astonishing. Sure, bleep out a curse word or put in an asterisk. But....dead? "Dead" doesn't need to be bleeped. Nor names of diseases. Is it the filters on social media platforms? Or is it sensitivity gone amok?

Wrote it with Rob Smigel. And yes, it was pulled from reruns.

Michael Warburton@michaelwarburton.bsky.social

This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it. It was effectively banned as it never aired again. I wonder why. MEDIA-OPOLY

I still remember when Miller was a C-level talent who popped up on TV sometimes (including....a kids show?) in Pittsburgh. The fact that he's had a 40ish year career since - and that it included SNL - is one of the great mysteries of the universe.

Benjamin McKean@blmckean.bsky.social

This is the worst idea I’ve heard since they gave _Joanie Loves Chachi_ a second season

Lived in Pittsburgh in the 90s and 00s. Suit and tie wasn't unusual for downtown, but if you were beyond that, you'd absolutely get asked if yinz were going to a wedding or funeral all dressed up. I had neighbors and family who would wear their "good sweatpants" to fine dining spots....

derek guy@dieworkwear.bsky.social

It's very easy to wear a suit and tie in any major city, even if the aesthetic has mostly disappeared from daily life, because there are people outside wearing pink tutus with Army boots. As usual, your liberation is connected to other people's liberation.

This dude would not be the first politician to forget that Pennsylvania exists beyond its southeastern corner. He might be the first to wear a blazer that looks like the couch from the set of The Golden Girls. And his hair is almost Traficant-ly.

Rep. David Maloney, a Republican who represents parts of Berks County, wants to rename Lake Erie to “Lake Pennsylvania,” arguing that the state’s only Great Lake has become increasingly important to Pennsylvania’s economy and identity.

Brett Favre: I was a QB for the Packers, and then revealed my true self to be a morally repugnant, misogynistic sack of shit! Aaron Rodgers: Hold my cheese curds!

The stupidity, it BURNS. Hollywood is making a fucking HAWAII FIVE-O movie, so revisiting an existing premise isn't a foreign concept. The audience wants the original. A slight update for today's guests and audience, like the Sabrina episode? Sure. Otherwise, give us the original recipe Muppets!

DiscussingFilm@discussingfilm.net

There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)

One generation, too. Parents both born in late 1930s, both lived without indoor plumbing for much of their childhoods. Dad lived with a relative in HS and also had no electricity, iirc.

ghost malone ergo propter bones@proptermalone.bsky.social

how far back do you have to go in your family tree to someone who lived without indoor plumbing for me, that would be one (1)

C'mon Disney/ABC, light the damn lights already! We know variety ain't cheap. Do 6-8 episodes a season. Make it happen. We want it!

‘THE MUPPET SHOW’ has just won 4 Emmys. • Best Variety Special • Best Writing for a Variety Special • Best Editing • Best Production Design

As a former bookseller, next year will mark 30 years of me being sick of hearing about HP. Books, films, and now the author's horrifying personal crusade. Please, someone make it stop and/or disappear.

I miss old style conservatives, the kind who would complain and shake their fists at the scourge of teen pregnancy.

Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough: “The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”

Amazing band. I've all but sworn off air travel AND concerts, but I would have made my way to Chicago for this had I known about it. I love their whole catalog of music (but wish at least one or two early tracks had been on the playlist).

BigTakeoverMag@bigtakeover.com

It has been 23 years since The Innocence Mission played Chicago but, as lead singer Karen Peris explained, the traffic was bad. Either way, you couldn’t be part of that sold out crowd and not feel grateful to see them play again and cherish every moment of it.

I'm experiencing this issue as I write my novel....but also the reverse, at least with prose/language. As a journalist trained to be concise, I am struggling with the transition to "show, don't tell."

Trying to decide which option is a more tolerable 💩 sandwich: (1) paying nearly $1K a year to have "concierge" care for a doctor who might see me twice a year (and is about as warm as a glacier) OR (2) Work with another health system an hour and a half away. Health care in 2026 sucks.

Introduce yourself with 10 acts or bands you’ve seen live: Alison Moyet Ben Folds Five Andrew Bird Tina Turner The Go-Go's Shawn Colvin Matthew Sweet Bettye LaVette The Cardigans Tori Amos (Alas, I've missed a number of favorite bands/musicians live - the woes of a US based British music fan...)

Scott Wilson@scottwilsonkc.bsky.social

Way late to this and so skipping the verbiage and announcing 10 acts I have seen live … in a theater (fewer than 3,000 seats) or club. R.E.M. Elliott Smith Neko Case Jack DeJohnette Leonard Cohen Randy Newman Emmylou Harris Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Pulp

Did someone at the WH *really* choose the original Hawaii Five-O music to play over this atrocity? (It begs for Yakety Sax.)
