`cargo publish --workspace` is now available on nightly and the cargo team is looking for feedback to see if this can be stabilized! Run `rustup update nightly` and give it a try. More info at github.com/rust-lang/c...

Also what is the type of `Relay`, as is String, or really Option<String>. The devices I have all are using relay, but I am trying to figure out how to programmatically check connection type to peer.

Ok I know nobody cares about this but me, but GOD I care: 1. I have just downloaded your app. 2. You want me to make an account. I donโ€™t want to make an account! 3. When I enter my email, you inform me that I already have an account! This seems like a good thing, but I know it means only pain. 1/2

All jokes aside it's really fucked up to see so many people on here celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job of the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximise profits on your health and no one else

This is why I believe AI is over hyped. Does anyone want to consume AI generated content? AT ALL? Do you want to eat shit? No? How about if we created a system that can generate fuckton of shit per second? Would you want to eat shit then? Duh, still no. Almost food but not food is not food.

My new idea of hell is reviewing AI generated meeting notes; or worse, Confluence pages. It's a massive drain of time and energy to comb through pages of "frufru" LLM-generated text to fact-check every point. It would have been less work to have just taken the meeting notes myself. ๐Ÿ™

I have significant doubts that general Project Managers have a deep enough understanding of the domain to effectively spot hallucinations. Previously I'd be asked for clarification if there was ambiguity or uncertainty. Now I get a page of weasel-worded prose instead of clear concise points.

End of another day working on fastn v0.5. The "resolver", which converts a minimal parse tree to "resolved" / type checked AST. This part of design is brand new in 0.5, a (hopefully) proper type checker. No inference etc yet, but just a dedicated phase in compiler.

The interesting this about self declaration labels on content is it does scale. On a platform with 24 million users there are actually 24 million moderators, one moderator per person. Itโ€™s you! Labelling adult content as such is really low effort and the right thing to do. Remember consent?โ€ฆ

Thats a bit like if you donโ€™t want a big greedy corporation truck coming and picking up all candies donโ€™t put candies out for kids, especially without an autonomous anti truck missiles defence system.

if you *really* dont want something scraped donโ€™t put it out on the public web, especially without auth

A lot of people think everything will work out if we just play by the rules but donโ€™t seem to recognize that rules only matter when everyone agrees to follow them and, well, that isnโ€™t our present reality.

If you have rule of law, everyone follows law everyone benefits, some break the law, gain disproportionate benefit but law enforcement comes knocking. Law enforcement is considered good. If you have rule of niceness, .., niceness enforcement is derided by niceness breakers as woke.

Argument against universal basic income is that if you had your minimal needs met you will not want more be laze. In this world where the rich keep on doing criminal and unethical things to get richer proving that argument weak (void?).

Same with me. I kind of now know already when compiler is going to yell at me and reach out to bytes, arcstr, id-arena etc crates before bothering to see the error messages.

I'm still not sure if I am doing rust lifetimes properly, but the compiler sure is yelling at me a lot less nowadays.

For me Rust is about both "the right thing", and "practicality". Golang, Java etc considered the right thing (ADTs, using compiler to the fullest etc) as too academic and favoured "practicality". Whereas Haskell etc ignored practicality to do the right thing. Why not both?

Iโ€™m probably the worst Rustacean ๐Ÿฆ€ to follow tbh. I would be the first to tell you Rust is just another tool. Is it my favorite tool? Of course! Is it the one I always go for. No. But what makes Rust so much fun are the people who say โ€œwhat can we do to make this the best tool for the jobโ€

It's pretty remarkable just how standardized embedded development is with Rust. Due to the nature of embedded hardware it's challenging to build reusable abstractions across devices like microcontrollers, but Rust's trait system really shines here.

So far, to me Rust has the best error handling patterns. Not too strict (Haskell), not too verbose (Go), not too messy (Javascript). It just makes sense.
