My parents had a business friend I'll call Noah and then like a year ago they started talking about Nora with same surname in the same business so naturally I assumed it was the same person with a new gender but I'm flabbergasted to find out they're actually two people with same sounding names

Baseball is stupid, but it's stupid in a manner which ennobles the human spirit. Football reveals the lies we tell about ourselves and our society for the hollow boasts that they truly are.

Last year today was one of the scariest days of my life. We initially called a lawyer who wanted to work with feds to arrange a perp walk. Kat told that guy to fuck himself. Thank God for the National Lawyer's Guild, who Kat called right after. They were ready to fight the bullshit on zero notice.

Kat Abughazaleh@katmabu.bsky.social

Today is the anniversary of being told by an FBI agent that I was about to be federally indicted. I tried to look for pictures from that day but all there is the tableau of full-body stress hives all over my back. 0/10, take better pictures future Kat

I dreamed Tacoma put a detailed life-sized statue of a guy sitting on a bench hunched over looking at his phone in a beautiful park and it really pissed off a lot of people

When I was a child I was very stressed and would draw pictures of kids my age who metaphorically represented myself being violently abused. I had hundreds of them. I wasn't a threat to anyone, I was just constantly hurting inside. I kept them very secret--I knew if people found them they'd be mad.

So the "advice" doled out in this column makes me INCREDIBLY fucking angry as a former kid who was repeatedly taken to task by teachers for "inappropriate" drawings, culminating in a 9th-grade suspension spurred by Columbine paranoia and residual Satanic Panic. Arionne here says that was JUSTIFIED.

I think having these sketchbooks where I could draw metaphorical-me covered in blood and bruises helped me blow off steam. It kept my self-harm to a minimum and that didn't follow me as I got older. But I've never gotten over that knowledge that I'd get in trouble for expressing my feelings.

I think the lesson from Lula is not never talk about the opposition; it's articulate a positive vision that's basically, We Can Just Do Things. That's why Mamdani-ism is so popular - voters have an intrinsic sense that their electeds have agency they're not using

Hey remember a couple months ago when I almost died from sleep apnea and begged y'all to be checked if you have symptoms of sleep apnea? Eric Bauza just died from sleep apnea. We were the same age. Don't ignore sleep apnea.

Do you get a full night's sleep but wake up feeling like death? Does your whole body feel off in ways you can't explain? Research signs of Sleep Apnea. Get a sleep test. You can't diagnose it yourself, cuz you sleepin'.

Not only that there are many artists who enjoy drawing porn and they shouldn't be ashamed to sell it and charge what they're worth. Shaming sex workers who star in porn and artists who draw porn just makes things more dangerous for them and hurts their livelihoods.

The Other Happy Place@theotherhappyplace.bsky.social

I think artists and sex workers should have a natural allyship. Both of us are often told we should not be allowed to charge for our work if it is at all pleasurable. Both of us are wanted for what we can do, but our work is considered not worth paying for. We should stick together

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

helenwebberley.comAre transgender sports bans really about protecting women? | Dr Helen WebberleyThe data says no. Those most hostile to women are most in favour of banning trans athletes.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I like how this kind of time-wasting, directionless bloat is indistinguishable from intentional sabotage

There's this one page of Alan Moore's "Neonomicon" that always makes me laugh despite the grim and miserable subject matter and overall terrible writing. Lives rent free in my head. You used to be able to find it easily by googling "fishman handjob" but due to enshittification,,,

I wish I had a better answer for this very lovely prompt but it really is the first one that comes to mind. I'm sorry. Honorable mentions to the Akbar and Jeff comic where they work up the courage to go to a gay bar and discover that despite their fears they fit right in.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

The things you end up loving most about people are often the details that seem like they don't fit with the rest of what you know about them. It's nice.

About a decade ago I learned that my father uses the National Review movie reviews backwards when he texted me a link to a review panning a movie for violence etc. and said "this movie sounds great."

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

Getting to fully experience the peak internet back when it was still fun is a weird thing. Nice we got to enjoy the moment but now it sucks ass and I gotta wonder if it mighta been better to have never got a taste of the good shit. Millennial quaaludes.

I can't get over how crazy it is that YouTubers will beg for my likes like a fucking dog and then disrespect me by having AI graphics in their videos. I could insult them but they have already degraded themselves by groveling for my attention.

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

I have been meaning to write about this for a month or so now but it breaks my heart. AI has infected every hobby. Everything is noise. It's hurting existing communities and trudging through the slop is exhausting.

Doctors and nurses are voicing their objections. I-638 would require EVERY girl who wants to participate in sports to go through biological sex verification. That means expensive, invasive, and utterly gross examinations. Protect our kids and let them play. Vote NO on I-638

rangemedia.coMeasure to require "biological sex" verification for all WA girls’ sports athletes on November ballotIf passed, the hedgefund-millionaire-backed ballot measure would enact one of the nation’s strictest examination requirements for girls’ athletics.

it's not the only problem in the world but it seems very clear to me that better ADHD support leads to better real-world outcomes, and that the delta between outcomes for the well-supported and unsupported is frequently enormous

The most horrifying part about this to me is that there's ways to do paperwork to prevent this, but poor people are not taught about it, we are not informed that we need to do this, rich people know all the paperwork secrets and they intentionally keep poor people from them

if millennials could afford homes this wouldnt be a problem but this is going to hit the generation like a truck
