Engineering strategy is hard. It took me several years to start understanding it. That's why I share my learnings on #EngineeringStrategy regularly in my blog. If you're looking for a place to start, this is a good resource. 🙌🙌 learnings.aleixmorgadas.dev/p/designing-...

This 👆 Although I'm pretty sure lots of folks used the StackOverflow excuse back in the day... which doesn't mean it's not an excuse and you must own your work, regardless of how you came up with whatever code you produced.

Claude didn't do anything, you accepted the tool output. Imagine we say: - My keyboard introduced a bug because the key ; didn't work. - Stackoverflow suggested that You are the author of your work, regardless of the tools you use. When I hear "Claude said...", I just cannot stand to that 😅

Use the propser tools for each context, but folks, you're still responsible of that output/outcome. They might malfunction, but you need to be sure they work properly and fix the issues if so. I cannot imagine people blaming the keyboard because a key just stopped working. You fix it or replace it

ECMAScript excitement 😉 Congrats to @ashley-c.bsky.social from TechAtBloomberg on advancing the Composites proposal to Stage 2 at @tc39.es today 🎉 Composites are objects that are compared by value instead of identity. They are an evolution of Record & Tuple proposal.

My daughter decided to sleep all the night in arrow after months of waking up every hour. So, she is sleeping now while me being awake because my sleep pattern is broken now. I decided to take advantage of not being able to sleep to write about a topic I recently found interesting to share

There is a lit of things I'm considering writing about: 👉 Ignoring you're making architectural decisions and letting the AI do it for you 👉 Passing the context and asking for a solution 👉 Conway's Law. Solutions that ignore the org structure. 👉 DevOps? Are we developing for running it?

the hard parts of building a business are - solving a real problem for real people - ignoring shiny ideas that are fun but distracting - prioritizing boring stuff that moves the needle - connecting with customers if anything, AI makes it *harder* to build a successful business

To assert that any contemporary AI can think or is conscious represents a particularly emaciated meaning of those words, and suggests that any author of such assertions has a profound misunderstanding of the exquisite nature of what it means to be human.

Is it me, or is the quality of software going down? In the past few months I have started to notice that software that use to work, is now having issues. No major issues, but small hiccups that make it really annoying to work with. e.g. notifications that reappear, read to unread, stuff like that.

One of the worst lies is "this is an edge case" Model your domain to understand that case instead of treating it like an exception It's uncomfortable when reality breaks our model. Labeling it as an edge case prevents us from improving our model Each edge case is an opportunity to learn & improve

I'm having so much fun at work right now. Interesting domain, product and technically challenging. Started with EventStorming and now designing a first architectural step. Focusing on learning fast about the legacy. Plus, huge work with product to find a great North Star Metric ⭐

The tools we use shape how we work, how we understand the problem-solution space, and narrows down our thinking to what's possible with them. The energy and effort needed to work outside them is so high that we just ignore that approach. Pick your tooling carefully

We've been getting a lot of questions about how the Internet Archive digitizes books. The short answer: page by page, by hand. You may remember our viral 2021 video of Eliza Zhang scanning a book. That's still how we do it. Meet Eliza, and learn how we scan books: blog.archive.org/2021/02/09/m...

Some companies are automating bug reports by clients We will start seeing reports like: """ I found a bug for my account with email, the price for my items is 0€. This is urgent to be fixed ASAP as it is impacting more customers. """ And now I have a 0 human approved PR reaching production. Funny
