There's a hidden imperative in this, by the way: Given Friedman's law, "fan bases" do not automatically become "communities." No matter how wholesome and friendly the original (small, niche) fan base is, *effort* must be put in to maintain that as the fan base grows. This is about Critical Role.

Dr. Emily Friedman@ecfriedman.com

If someone hasn’t said this already (let’s be honest: it’s probably been said a zillion times), call it Friedman’s Law: “Any fan base of sufficient size will inevitably include assholes”

Epic made provably incorrect statements about the game’s content, refused to provide details supporting their claims, and has not shared their claimed AO IARC certificate, which normally includes a link for the developer to appeal. They do not ‘love that studio’, they have effectively ghosted us

Stephen Totilo@stephentotilo.bsky.social

Earlier this week, I spoke briefly Epic about Horses, a game that was approved for release on EGS, then blocked after a re-rating "We love that studio," Epic VP Steve Allison said of Santa Ragione, but maintained that an AO rating was a dealbreaker www.gamefile.news/i/186925441/...

But… do you know how mad Tim was when he realized there wasn’t any actual child porn in the game and so it didn’t support his political beliefs? Disclaimer: Tim Sweeney does not enjoy child porn.

Don’t fall for it. We’ll be barraged with horrible news for 4+ years. You will see your favorite shows be replaced with slop starring Tim Allen and Rosanne type bootlickers. Commercials recruiting you for ICE with Dana White ranting over it. You’ll forget this discount as they jack up prices 50%

Disney adults canceling subscriptions, vacations, etc really are making the Harry Potter adults that threw a fit over a $60 video game look like huge bitches

Historically accurate rendition of an Oceanus Procellarum Mercenary. Such attire was everyday among high-ranking officers in the rebellious barons’ armies. After the Treaty of Phobos, many were forced to resort to banditry to sustain their life of excess. - Inspired by @armouredelf.bsky.social

Meredith has always been a G, but it's still exceptionally weird and very refreshing hearing from a tech exec who can see through all of this AI bullshit for what it is at its foundation: a backdoor surveillance tool.

Keith Fitzgerald@keithfitzgerald.bsky.social

Worth a watch: Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

NEW — Kelvin Membreño will be deported to El Salvador by ICE tomorrow. He’s the birth father of three US citizen daughters and has become an important part of their lives. Here their adoptive mother makes a last ditch plea to let him stay in the same country as the girls. A gutting guest essay:

take a moment to watch the first segment of this video where robert sits and ruminates on the doctors who decided that helping a trans person was too embarrassing so they opted to let him die a slow and painful death.

nattie winters@utilitylimb.bsky.social

there are knock-on effects similar to what happens when abortion is criminalized. consider the life of robert eads, a trans man who had treatable ovarian cancer but couldn’t find a doctor to remove his ovaries because they were afraid of being seen as gender doctors, so he died. doc about him here:

Happy #EarthDay! 8 years ago, as we held the largest day of science advocacy in history, I wrote in the @theguardian.com: "Why March for Science? Because when it is attacked, only the elite benefit." These words hold true today. When we stand up for science, we stand up for justice and equality.

this is all very cute but the truth is that we need explainers that go into how the media industry functions, for folks who are just getting into it and need to learn how to navigate it. this deserves backing for the information alone!

Please read this thread. Congress can - and must - stop the tariffs. If you have a GOP representative, call them and demand an end to the tariffs.
