Healey reminding Badenoch of her support for the Iran war. This is one of her major potential weaknesses with Lab/Con swing voters (along with her net zero views), even if they like other things about her. One of Starmer's better jabs and not sure why new Govt abandoned it. (prompted list q)

And even more exciting that Camden council is making the pedestrianisation of Camden High Street permanent! A good week for better high streets in London. safetravelcamden.commonplace.is/news/camden-...

Fantastic to be on the newly pedestrianised Camden High Street, which starts this bank holiday weekend! So much more space for people to enjoy now, and much safer for everyone on the street 😃

I'm not as convinced as some others that Marine Le Pen will be France's next president. But in the event she does win, she'll still have to govern in co-habitation with a hostile parliament. And I suspect dissolution and new elections would be even worse for her than leaving this one in place.

The list sent by Harold Wilson to his cabinet of “little things that mean a lot”, including the protection of local breweries, concessionary fares for the elderly, empty office blocks and “the future of the pint”. Echoes of this in Burnham’s small but popular policies today.

I see drivers constantly go through red lights, turn without indicating etc, let alone speeding, which means common. None of this is a surprise. Sadly it remains too socially acceptable even as these things kill and maim people.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

This video camera study showed that less than 5% of people on bikes broke traffic laws while riding bikes, yet 66% of people did so while driving. And perhaps even more importantly, if you REALLY want even MORE bike-riders to obey laws, build more protected bike infrastructure. Via @carltonreid.com

Excellent news: work has begun on Newham’s first fully protected Dutch-style intersection, with free left turns for cycling and straight-across crossings for pedestrians. Let’s hope for a speedy construction!

Newham Council@newhamcouncil.bsky.social

Construction has started on street improvements at the junction of Romford Road at Woodgrange Road. Improvements will include: - New segregated cycle tracks - Safer and easier pedestrian crossing points - A new traffic light system to aid traffic flow

"You must deport the whole Boriswave" is a view in our society - but quite unpopular one esp once interview the care workers, vets and chefs, engineers & architects "We oppose the ugly mass remigration auction to kick out millions of legal migrants of Lowe v Farage" lands better for Mr Burnham

The NHS has issued new guidance on same sex spaces for patients and staff. This guidance is based on the EHRC code of practice which we believe is exclusionary of trans and non-binary people. We continue to hold serious concerns about the implications of the guidance, and how it will be implemented.

Solutions! 1. Adopt WHO levels (as Camden Council was first to do) 2. At the very least, place this with both DEFRA and Dept of Health 2a. Bonus solution: task local NHS bodies with influencing what gets built and burnt in their areas: fuels in buildings, roads/travel, solid fuel burning Boom 🤸🏽‍♀️

Maddening things about air quality policy and action in the UK: 1. Even if you get to "legal levels", these are pretty weak beer. 2. Air pollution is always treated as an environmental issue – when really the impacts are all about health. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Real risk that AVs will make congestion in London worse. Some of the key recommendations related to this below.

Sadly not much shocks me anymore about the far right, but this is sickening. The quotes from the Reform councillors about people who aren’t white or muslim are abhorrent. And I’m sure this man would still call himself a ‘patriot.’

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Another Reform councillor in South London called for the King to be decapitated for being a secret Muslim. Reform say they are taking disciplinary action against a small number of councillors who do not share their values. I believe both would be welcome in Restore www.itv.com/news/2026-10...

Our thoughts are with Harry Webb's friends and family as the court case has, after three years, drawn to a conclusion. It's good that the sentence reflects the seriousness of drug driving. But more also needs to be done to reduce the known issues on this road, and prevent future harm from occurring.

A much-needed - and typically brilliant - counter(blast) to the current common wisdom. I've read so much motivated reasoning from Tory-inclined commentators and out-and-out Badenoch fan-boys (and girls) over the last few days that this was a real breath of fresh air.

Sam Freedman@samfr.bsky.social

New post: The Tory conference represented a clear change in strategy. But so far the shift has been largely superficial and rhetorical. There are three big problems with making the strategy work - and it is not at all clear they're resolvable. samf.substack.com/p/the-three-...

God, the tone and content of Evan Davis's reporting on PM–almost aggrieved that it's not a major terrorist incident. And "scratching his head" because... the police at still investigating. What??!

Terribly sad news. She was always a voice of reason and will be even more missed now in today's climate of extremisms.

I strongly welcome giving London the power to introduce an Overnight Visitor Levy. A modest, well-designed levy has the potential to provide an important additional source of funding to support growth, strengthen London’s offer to visitors and help us remain globally competitive.

Last couple of editions of #wato have been truly shocking. Stunningly useless interviewing; and now presenting harassing the visiting U19 Pakistani cricketers as some unhappy mishap by "protesters".
