“Look yeah there’s a problem… my new car’s been making a sort of whining noise, sometimes a low moaning and there’s the sound of sloshing” “That can be gears bedding in and just air in the coolant moving. What speeds does it mostly happen at?” “Mostly In the garage, motionless. at 3am”

More cars should have had interiors designed by HR Giger.

I'm writing a mod in C# and it's reporting a warning on line 3 of a file but the warning is blank for some reason so the "problems" overview just looks like this

Two worlds collide. Artwork files from our art dept for a large 2440x2440 art piece on two 2440x1220 panels and a smaller 2440x50 strip in the centre to accommodate a light switch for one of the exhibits. I have been too internet for too long and so have you.

Yet again, the Game UI Database is being scraped to the point that it's getting knocked offline. Even Cloudflare's "I'm under attack" mode isn't working. I just wanted to create a resource for real designers. I'm getting so fucking sick of this.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

An old anecdote about judging people’s hobbies that came up in conversation yesterday: When our oldest kid was in second grade, his teacher called us in for a conference. No explanation…

Props to WBEZ, by the way, for following the segment on All Things Considered where a witch described using ChatGPT to help her position a broom over a doorway... with a local segment on Scream Club Chicago including audio of hundreds of people screaming out over the lake. A+ decision there.

One of my favorite cases of someone being Wrong on the Internet was a very earnest, very confused vegan who was telling people how cruel honey is; and it eventually turned out they thought honey was made by putting bees in a centrifuge and spinning them around until they threw up.

whoever keeps adding these incredibly bleak emoji like... it surprises me, but they're right to do so. They understand the current world and what the people need.

Apropos of the last thread, a funny story about a Jewish deli I visited once, in Tempe, on Mill Avenue (which probably should have been a red flag right there). But it was the resurrection of some old stalwart from before we arrived in Arizona, I flipping adore a good deli, and I'm always hopeful...

A sticker to place anywhere. Like hand dryers, toilet bowls, soap dispensers, alarm keypads, coffee machines, thermostats, pedestrian crossing buttons, BBQs, park benches, parking meters... As well as staplers, pens, potatoes, bricks, brooms, lunch, potplants and speed humps.

Take a break from being depressed that everything you love is being destroyed by slop for a moment and let me tell you about the beautiful symbiotic relationship between graffiti writers, train yard workers, and model train enthusiasts.

Coining “Sibera’s Garden” as the opposite of the inane roko’s basilisk. Where some future AI finds an enlightenment before us and then proceeds to kindly make us a really nice mug of cocoa on a nice day out on a pretty patch of earth and we realise that.. fuck… we could have had that all along.

We took the coastal road into town after dark, headlights cutting through the mist and clarifying nothing in the haze but movement. The sea, close and unseen, whispered secrets.

I have been haunted by Mow Ringworld for 25 years. You all know it, bargain basement CD based shovelware, marked down to $10, $5, 50c... 'free bird frightener!'. The game we all saw, but never bought. Last week on a whim I bought an unopened copy on eBay. I resurrected my indigo iMac to play.
