One way or the other. People were bitching and moaning about custom pronouns/genders/sexualities years ago. That issue also solved itself without the need of the decree from above.

Solidarity means we all win or we all lose, but in either case we do it together. Too many think “if I just sell out enough of my allies, maybe *I* can be safe”. Those people are assholes, and not to be trusted.

My assumption has been that it’s a way of getting the opposition to have to use up their powder on an unpopular position. And use up the powder they do.

I will say this…..I think the approach could have been fighting for their rights to access, as opposed to give them rights without public persuasion; and allow the right to attack. It’s akin to if local jurisdictions allowed gay marriage and then let RE media frame the debate

The hyperbole in this argument is beyond belief. US voters overwhelmingly are uncomfortable with the idea of trans women competing with cis women. Many of those uncomfortable people are cis women. Yet people here are hiding behind false claims of what this means. And it helped re-elect trump.

Really disagree. This is about achieving trans rights which are human rights. The right has used trans athletes to distract attention from that and it has have been effective for them. Don't ask don't tell was a huge victory. The public saw gays in the military working. No point in excluding them.

This argument sounds like the gun nuts who freak out about background checks. A tiny segment of people not being able to play in the specific league they desire is not worth this. It's not that they *can't* play sports, it's specific leagues. It's a dumb hill to die on.

the trial balloon is part of it but them going after trans people is very much about specific animus towards us, the sports participation and transition care for teens are the outer perimeters that they chip away at before going deeper on banning transition care in general, as some places are trying

The best way to defend any one vulnerable group is for every vulnerable group to collectively drive home an election-winning message and regain some political power.

This is true about attacks on trans people generally. It is not true about the trans sports issue, which requires a more nuanced approach.
