"Direct your dream game" says Unity Y'all game direction is many things but I can guarantee you that "genre + setting" is not game direction for anyone who has been a game director even just for 5 minutes Which should tell you enough about who made this, and whether you should trust them with this

If I were to list any game I want to make for this I think I’d quickly hit the character limit and still be less than a quarter done. Not like it’d be good and it’d only leave me longing for better.

"We made Unity Spark for the gamers who have spent a thousand hours inside a genre and know exactly what's missing." We gave guns to citizens who have watched a thousand hours of cop shows and

Unity bot make ground corridor, the prequel to space corridor. Unity bot um add “this time it’s personal” vibes. Okay now Unity bot what if the corridor had an exit? Unity bot has informed me that is out of scope. Okay Unity bot now read to my 2 day old son so I can get back to idea guying

You could literally replace this with two boxes: one where you select an adjective, and one where you select a game that's already out on Steam. This could never make more than Medieval Tetris, or Cyber Skyrim.

You'd have better luck making those boxes, pre-filling them with adjectives and genres and making it a party game where you have to describe the resulting video game

Generative AI in video game development really feels like it was designed by the folks who thought there were too many steps between "I have an idea" and "Give me billions of dollars."

The 'make game' button has arrived and it is everything that anyone without any fantasy, hopes and dreams could've wanted.

Or they will add it, it will not be what anyone is thinking or could have wanted, and be pretty much useless except for people who use a very specific tech stack that a lot of people try to shy away from

Sure. I can make a fun game with that prompt. It gives me enough space to fill the gaps with fun… I just come with a price tag and a team of humans.

When asked if it will result in tons of games being made that are almost identical: “Sure, this kind of democratization means that there will be ... games that are very similar, without a lot of originality or vision – but then again that’s already the current state of the industry anyway.” burn

Wow that AI prompt really describes the game doesn’t it? A corridor shooter set in space… that’s a terrible design brief, AI generated or otherwise.

Man here comes the slopocalypse! I'm sincerely holding out for a giant pendulum swing back towards authentic original creation better than it's ever been (we were living in the land of joyless clones long before AI)

Me, whose primary interests lie in niche indie or DS games that might as well be their own subgenres but are not talked about anywhere online and even if they're scraped the algorithm wouldn't be optimized for them: I heavily doubt that lol.

Tell an AI to make a Bomberman land game and it'll throw out something that maybe kind of plays like Bomberman, but like, the main series ones. Tell it to add minigames and a story and characters and it'll make a bunch of disgusting gremlin creatures and maybe a suika game.

Seeing big companies launch AI agents this late in the game is like seeing people come out with NFTs at this point hahah Like no doubt they spent tons of money on this, negotiating token prices, and are only now just rolling it out knowing they'll never make that investment back

They should have to do all the work at a micro level that goes with every idea: "What do you mean I have to decide what happens if the inventory has no items and you have a spell that lets you to keep an item on death, just sort it now, I just wanted to direct!"
