By ‘car-hating’, do you really mean ‘dedicated to efficient means of transportation in a city more than a hundred times as dense than the average in the US’ where cars make absolutely no sense compared to good public transport unless you’re a rugged individualist who doesn’t give a shit about others

Considering I’m an avid bike rider and I don’t even have to go outside of this year for an example of when I was hit by a car…fuck yeah Mamdani writing the blueprint for how to set up a successful, leftist government. Let’s hope his opponents don’t moderate it away

I fully expect his opponents and detractors to push back and curb his ideals, but he's starting from a point where there are actually acceptable compromises to that goal instead of low-balling and only being able to go backwards.

The far left was a bus stop in 2006. Today Broadway is configured with parking on either side of the street, and the left traffic lane is painted red for busses only. The bus stop is now just south of this image, below Spring Street, with a bus island.

Mamdani: “we’re gonna focus on improving public transportation” New York Post: “oh my God! Mamdani added someone who’s going to focus on improving public transportation!”

"I bet you if he went to his grandma, she wouldn’t be too happy", about 85% of the old people I know can't drive so they take the bus instead - they're not very mobile but I'd assume more bus routes would be in the plans. I guess we'll see

Im only 32, but i *hate* driving. I hate driving in places with a lot of traffic even more. Driving myself in a big city is basically nightmare scenario for me, so yes, more public transit please... even in places that aren't giant metropolises too. More busses and trains plz.

Ah yes, the horror of fewer cars on the road so that people who like to drive have to deal with less traffic. I get that the Post's whole thing is to be loudly wrong about everything, but maybe once in a while you could come up with a take that isn't a steaming pile. Ya know, just for fun?

Are these kinds of articles even effective? This is possibly the least surprising thing ever. Will you post next about how he's appointing landlord-hating activists?

Fuck yeah. I’m not even particularly left, but if Mamdani can help reduce the insane handouts we give to car culture (free infrastructure, land use, uncompensated health damage from pollution and noise), he’s my personal hero.

Hard left candidates make big swings that can get moderates excited to move the needle. They don't have to fully deliver if they shift the Overton window enough, because progress is made in small steps.

To catapult pro-congestion oil-burning propaganda, the New York Post could not have done better than use an old pic of backed-up traffic with a stuck ambulance and a van illegally blocking the bus lane, like a Gop politician or donor
