BREAKING: the Democratic National Committee just unanimously approved a resolution calling for the abolition of ICE! After terrorizing our friends, families, and neighbors, ICE has no place in our nation. I'm grateful @democrats.org agreed. Now we're onto the hard work to make that happen!

That is great ICE had been causing way too much damage killing, Americans on the street or in cars and saying it self-defense. so the question do we need ICE or do we need to replace it with something better that can't kill citizens.

They should fire all the ICE officers, put enforcement into the INS, create standards like no masks and no arrests of non specifically targeted people and require character references for all applicants. Also no concentration camps with subhuman conditions.

Finally, a system update that actually addresses the legacy bugs instead of just patching the UI. Long overdue for a hard reset.

I'd prefer we revert back to INS and Customs, but the real need is to improve how those agencies operate. Talk of "abolishing" is absolutist and will simply get hung around our necks come election time.

Reform is fine for CBP which actually has some legitimate functions. CBP can be drastically curtailed to only actually patrol the border, rather than roam all over the country. ICE does not. ICE has so fully tarnished its reputation and is unsalvageable. It needs to be destroyed.

Theater from the Dems and looking weak in the process. Abolish ICE - abolish everything Dems- and replace it with what? When are the democratic leaders going to get it through their heads that Americans want a strong border, a strong immigration plan, a structured, humane grip on our south border ?

If those are your worries, then your belief in our nation and our selves and our principles is pretty damned weak. "All those immigrants will kill Western Civilization!" Beating up on people is no way to found a democracy. Or are you just afraid of anyone who is not just like you?

You have an extreme yet superficial way of viewing a very complex issue.I strongly support immigration and I strongly support legal immigration. Your view is if you don’t support illegal immigration than you must be a bigot is absurd and juvenile. Most Americans support immigration-legal immigration

Nice strawman ya got there. Be a shame if something was to happen to it. 'though I am kind of curious how immigration is very complex. But you do you. c-punt incoming

ICE has nothing to do with the border, dumbass. You can replace it with a much smaller, more focused agency whose sole mission is to go after actual criminal illegals, and actually have them be properly vetted professional.

Well look at that! We’re pushing the DNC into showing some spine. ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE YO!!! ✊🏼✊🏿✊🏾✊🏿✊🏼✊🏿✊🏾

Abolish is a lie Replace or Reform is too nuanced for the fried brains we see on display here. Half know you are all truly that simple so they tell you Abolish. Narrator: there will always be some org in charge of immigration, whatever the new name is.

I'll believe it when those cowards get it passed. But they won't. They'll water it down before they even present it to congress and then Republicans will gut the hell out of it and our streets will still be full out brownshirts beating up immigrants. Don't ask me to cheer

They're not going to do the hard work of making it happen, they're going to discover after it gets them some votes that it's too hard and we actually should do a lot more racism.

Dem leaders are funded by Big Biz & Big Biz loves illegal immigration because it means lower wages. It's possible to oppose how Trump abuses ICE while realizing they serve a vital role in deporting criminals & in not letting Big Biz drive wages even lower.

Except for the inconvenient fact that they DON'T really go after real criminals, do they? No, that's dangerous cuz sometimes those guys fight back and that's scary! Much safer to roll up to a meat packing plant or job site OR COURTHOUSE & snatch the ones who're working, paying taxes, etc.x Bullies!!

I'm glad they did it but they probably waited till closer to election season just because it would be fresh in people's minds. Not excusing it because they needed to stop this months ago, just pointing out that american's are totally overloaded right now.

The US didn't enter WWII until forced by Japan. However, the economic and military power of the US helped win the war. If the DNC is finally onboard, i will ding them for being late to the party, but we can use the political muscle.

Nah. Fuck yourself. How many innocent lives were lost because y'all couldn't be fucked to do this sooner? How many innocent families destroyed? Everyone in office should be tried for treason and murder. "Take the W" Take a boot to your fucking face

Can you forward the article you're referencing? The DNC did pass a resolution at our last meeting calling simply for "reforming" ICE. But the resolution we passed today clearly said "abolish."

Ah, thank you for flagging. I found the "concrete reforms" phrase. (See that reso below.) I read this resolution as more of a floor than the ceiling the "abolish" language clearly is.

It's all very unclear. Multiple outlets are referring to "a separate proposal calling for agency reforms" alongside this one to abolish ICE. But apparently no journalists actually wrote down or recorded what was said, because NOWHERE can I find anything less vague than this.

newsweek.comDNC votes to back eliminating ICE as Trump expands deportationsThe vote highlights ongoing internal debates within the party over how to approach immigration policy ahead of the midterms.

Just a few years ago NPR Ira Glass was calling #AbolishIce the build the wall of the left. Ira is a coward, a fascist enabler, look at my BlueSky video! #NPRbias bsky.app/profile/mich...

Breaking, this is meaningless and only the shallow care one way or another. A symbol for the simple. Want real change? Support a coalition that can bring a significant governing Dem supermajority across the board (you have never lived through one, never)
