Not the key part of this story, obviously... but they *sold* his phone? WTF?

This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan. A citizen. Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold. "We're from the United States bro!' he screamed. Agents took and sold his phone And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

The seized his phone (which had video of the whole encounter) and when he got out of hospital he used Find My Phone to track it to a "vending machine for used electronics" near the ICE detenetion center. Seems too fast for government processing of seized property, suggests an ICE agent did it.

They might have dumped it in a donation bin rather than sold it; I don't know how a phone would wind up in a machine like that, and without having been wiped or anything. It's not completely clear to me whether the goal was money, or a quick disposal of the stolen phone avoiding paperwork or hassle.

There are machines like that where you can sell old phones. Once the phone is assessed for value, the door slides shut and it's dumped in a bin. Our local Walmart has one.

If you believe the processing of a donated phone will reliably wipe it clean then donating it could be a more effective way of making the phone disappear than literally throwing it away, and less work than smashing it.

Fun fact: those privately-owned sell back kiosk machines have security cameras. See it? I wonder if some journalist might want to contact the company.

Theyre criminals through and through. Assault, kidnapping, theft. Thats worth what, 10-20 years in prison before we attach terrorism and hate crimes? Make a list. These thugs will pay like the Nazis paid.

Past ethnic cleansings / genocides use this method, they self-fund through confiscations and sales. It's also a way to expand the target audience as they just start to follow the money.

"Arnoldo had filmed much of the incident, but agents had taken his phone. He used Find My to locate the phone — at a vending machine for used electronics miles away, close to an ICE detention center."

When they raided the apartment building at 4am in Chicago they *cleared out* the 6 victims apartments - took all their belongings in a moving truck. It's part of the cruelty they want to inflict, not random

Yeah, it's astounding. He got his phone back by using Find My Phone and finding it ... in a vending machine for "used electronics" located ... right by an ICE detainment facility. There's no accounting at all yet for how much property these ICE bandits are stealing from people they assault.

I don't find it hard to believe at all that an ICE agent took the phone and sold it for some extra cash. These guys appear to ignore procedure at will, so what's to stop them from seizing a detainee's personal property and "forgetting" to return it or log it as evidence?
